Opinions please.

As some off you may know I am having slight trouble with the Gararge and my corrado, they think now it could be the diff causing problems. Because the engine was sitting scu wiff (dont know how long for) due to the engine mount bracket being held in with one bolt , the drive shaft would have been slightly out of line and it could have damaged the diff bearings or some thing like that. Do you think this is possible. Please give me your thoughts.

dont know ur full history with your car and the trouble u have but im a mechanic and have had this happen before at work with a vauxhall combo van well at least thats wot we put it down to a engine mount broke his whole gearbox went bang but it slightly popped a drive shaft and it lost all of the fluid, dont know if this has helped u out or not lol tough 1 to say without looking at the car.

Alignment is very important and it all has an effect.

If you think of it as a rear whell drive... if the set up isnt plumb straight then you will kill the rear diff.... so yeah always possible..

I would have expected a shaft to go first. If you had already replaced them then yeah it makes sense as the forces are still on the diff. So over a larger period of time you would see wear on the pressure points or the weakest link would go if not oiled or running more heat if you see what i mean.....

Thanks lads, it was the front engine mount, the brackett which holds the mount on was only being held in by 1 bolt so the engine was tilted forward slightly, about 15mm or so, do you think I should change the diff bearings and the drive shaft. And if you have any ideas on cost of each part that would be great.

Why dont you see how it goes first, otherwise you may change things that dont need it. Just simply having the engine in the correct position may be enough to remedy your driveability issues. Maybe the mount was moving when you engage your clutch, which would effect the initial take off causing the juddering.......just a thought......... :-p

Thats what I have been doing, the mount was done in Febuary and its had 2 new clutches a new fly wheel, so this is the next step

Was the release arm of the clutch replaced? What sort of judder is it, is it on take off (when the clutch is released)?.....judder on take of is either clutch or engine/gearbox mount related, i would look at these first, if a bearing was going/gone then you would either have a noise or movement to indicate wear/damage. I would suspect however that the driveshafts would be more susceptible to damage than the diff bearings, do you have a rattling sound at low speed at nearly full lock?.......A bit more info required on symptoms and what you've replaced or ruled out.........

yep what dealey boy said. i cant see it being bearings.. though driving with one bolt in wont help. the fact youve gone through 2 clutches is somewhat of a worry.. but bent clutch forks are quite commn. did you replace it ?
