Synta Silver in a 10W-40 viscosity is a safe choice for a high-mileage VR6, although Castrol Magnatec works well too.

After you fit the new filter element into the black plastic "pot", be sure to fill the pot with oil before refitting it to the car. This will prevent the engine from running without oil for the first few seconds after startup. This is an important step to the oil change procedure that is often overlooked.

How often you change the oil depends on how the car is driven. For normal "fast road" driving, I'd say every 6,000 miles is about right, maybe a bit less if you REALLY like caning it.

What manufactures have done in recent years is to increase the sump carrying capacity on there cars, this then increases the service intervals between oil changes.

Afew years ago a normal recomended oil change interval was 6K, which was with a 5litre sump. Now adays 6/6.5litre sumps are common, this then means that the service intervals has increased to an average of 10-12k.
