D16vGTi 1
Right, I'm contemplating the turbo route for my VR but just wondering what the best turbo is for the least amount of money that will give around 300bhp without having reliability problems, as you can tell it will be done on a tight budget.I'm assuming a KO3 is too small? would a turbo off an 03 impreza sti be ok?Any ideas, opinions or comments?CheersDan
VR6BOY 2
K03 would be a bit small how about a T3/4 they can be picked up fairly cheap
D16vGTi 1
Something like this?http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Brand-new-T3-T4-Hybrid-Turbo-charger-UK-ITEM_W0QQitemZ290333291940QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item43993675a4&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12|66%3A2|39%3A1|72%3A1689|293%3A1|294%3A50
D16vGTi 1
IHI VF35 is the turbo on my brothers scoob, and I was wondering whether I could use that as he is changing it for an upgraded model soon and will sell it to me cheap, but just wondering whether this is usable on the vr and whether it will fit in the bay of a mk2vr at that?Cheers
FishWick 21
That IHI is normally used on a 1.8T, it's far too small for a VR6. It'll just choke to death at the top end. That ebay turbo is a chinese copy. Might last 10 years, might last 10 minutes, but is the minimum size you should consider imo. VR6BOY 2
Yeah just as Kev says thats the minimum size for a VR6 next up would be T04E or a GT3076R the latter would be my choice

D16vGTi 1
Ok just been having a gander on the bay and found a gt3071r, out of my current budget but looks like I'll have to put this off for a few months anyway so time to save, but could someone please explain the jargon below, I haven't got a clue about T3 flanges or any of that, so if someone could put it in to laymans terms I'd really appreciate it.I've highlighted the confusinf parts.CheersTurbo is the newest addition to the Garrett Ball Bearing Line up. It fills in the requirements for small displacement 4 cyl. engines and has a excellent response characteristics. It spools up 1,000 RPM sooner than the older GT30R. The Dual Ball Bearing GT3071R Turbo comes assembled with T3 style turbine housing with T3 inlet flange. Turbine housing style available in Standard GT or with T3/T4 Ford Style 5 bolt turbine housing.Compressor housing comes standard with T04E compressor with 4.00" inlet and 2.00" outlet, as pictured above. Compressor inlet is also available with 2.75", 3.00" or alternate 4.00" inlet.Turbine-Wheel: 60mm w/ 84 trim-Housing: .63 A/R, .82 A/R, 1.06 A/RCompressor-Wheel: 71mm w/ 56 trim-Housing: .50 A/R
VR6Pete 1,455
He turboed his car for under a grand - sure there was a thread on here somwhere....Pete
D16vGTi 1
Just read through Jims thread, very impressive, although I'll go for C2 software, 4" MAF and uprated injectors I think rather than running the begi unit.Could someone compile a list of parts perhaps, that I would need for a basic turbo setup running a front mount intercooler and C2 software...pretty please??Cheers
bungy 2
With regard to the turbo's, T2's were fitted to Fiesta RS turbo's and T3's fitted to Escort RS's and Sierra Cosworths, T4's were fitted to RS 500 cossies. Apologies for the Ford description but the size of cars give a good idea of the size of turbo for power output.

FishWick 21
I had the GT3071R on mine originally and it's a very nice turbo. I would recommend a T3 inlet and 3" V Band outlet. All you need to know is it spools quick and kicks arse. The one part that makes the biggest different on VRT's is the turbo, so you really shouldn't skimp on that.
