TheMainManRob 0
Firstly i'm aware that the Aux pump comes on just before starting the car but isn't it suppost to run after the engine is up to temperature and the ignition is turned off? Also i've never heard the fans running while driving or after I get out of the car. After a long hard run the engine smells hot but my old 1.4 smelled this way too so I was thinking its normal plus the gauge sits bang on 90. I'm wondering if the radiator sensor is goosed as the fans work when bridging the relevent points.Another problem I have is that the coolent goes brown even after a good flushing with treatment and i'm also loosing coolent somewhere and its not in the footwells, the car had a head gasket change 50k miles ago. I've got a new waterpump, crack pipe, thermostat and housing and a new bottle and top on order and i've replaced my hoses with Samco's. Is there anywhre else I should look for possable leaks?I've checked the spark plugs which are fine ( no oil on the 6th pot :-d ) and there is no mayo on the cap so I don't think its a head gasket issue. This problem is bugging me, I have a basic Vag-com reader but I don't think its throwing up any faults, should a faulty temp sensor show up? One last thing, i've got some Febi Purple top. Is it the same as G12+ and can the two be mixed? Thanks for any help in advance.
bungy 2
Get your coolant chemically sniffed to tell for sure if the head gasket is leaking.

marco 0
Hold the exhaust gas analyser probe over the coolant bottle (cap off) it it registers a HC readng there is unburnt fuel in the cooling system - head gasket.
