It's alive!!!

Went to my local pirtek branch to make up my oil lines as didn't have correct tools here to do the job and wanted peace of mind 🏻 They have done a great job and only £38 - I supplied the li

I went to Stealth yesterday, feeling quite apprehensive! I am the 3rd car that has used their new strapping system, so they can run higher power cars without needing to use glue all of the time, and a

its been a while since my last update... but rest assured, I've kept working on the OBD2 stuff...

Got my ECU back with a raised limiter too! (Thanks Vince @ Stealth) fitted it all in, and it fired first flick of the key!

Here's a complimentary video :)

First impressions.... so much smooother, almost worth all the pain of the conversion..... It wasn't without its problems though, and soon noticed the temp gauge wasn't working, and the aux water pump wasn't running and fans were not kicking in as they should...

After looking at various wiring diagrams (thanks Dave and Vince @ Stealth) soon identified where the problem came from... we had forgot to connect the 2 wires to the aux pump, and there were a few issues in the fuse box which was the cause of the fans not running... We verified that all stages were working, only strange thing was that birding the 2 pins on the yellow sensor didn't kick in the fans in as it used to do... but as all 3 fan speeds were kicking in when they should, i was happy with this...

The only problem was the temp gauge in the cluster was not reading! managed get hold of some golf GTI mk3 clocks as the temp gauge is on the same circuit as the corrado and quickly identified the fault was with my cluster, so I currently have a new temp gauge in the post with a view of replacing the respective gauge in my cluster...

Happy days....

I also fitted a new drivers side hub as the one on the car was "mashed" and was difficult to get a wheel on that side of the car... such a simple job turned into an hour as the bolts for the brake disk shield sheered off my new hub.... some jiggery later we got it all hooked together and called it a night.....

Next mission was to find a place to swap my tyres over onto my new speed lines :) easer said than done around these parts and without going to a national tyre place on a Sunday! so, after several cheese oatcakes managed to find somewhere to swap them over... was slightly worried as none of the guys actually spoke any english, but they had all the various snap on machines so took the risk! all swapped over, noticed the rear wheels didn't have any weights on them! LOL They tried to say you don't need to balance rear wheels.... I just told them to do it!!! muppets! fitted the new wheels to my Corrado!

I think they look pretty good!

fired it up again and the bloody ABS light was on arrrrggggh! turned out the ABS sensor in the new hub was chuffed! Tried to extract the old sensor from my knackered hub as it looked new, unfortunately it snapped.... ordered a new one.... just need to fit it now!

Also had a sneaky peak at new VR6OC banners that came that weekend too!

Tided up all the loose wires and re-routed my alarm cables, wrapped into my newly created loom for neatness... ran out of loom tape so just need to finish wrapping I got more from Audi... 2 rolls for 6 quids I t bought was reasonable...

Ordered a few bits of the VW classic parts thread.... glovebox strip and rear VR6 badge :)

Ok. managed to fit the ABS sensor and wrap some more loom in the engine bay Thursday night.... clocks are now back in.... so just need to see if it all works now !!

still got more loom to wrap. quickly used up 1 role, but Ive replaced a lot of tape from the original loom left in the corrado...

might have found out why my low coolant light was flashing too.... I found another plug that was on the 'old' corrado loom, so i suspect that now its plugged in it will work, if so i can cut the un-needed plug off the loom... fingers crossed!

Cheers matey! It's so close to being finished... Had it running at the weekend, all seems be heading in the right direction, ABS now works, temp guage now working, noticed aux pump wasn't working but was simple enough job to replace the fuse in the fan control module unit, also no flashing coolant light! Glad it was just as silly as the wrong plug plugged in lol... Light as the end of the tunnel now though :) whoop

It failed the MOT...

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :(

well at least I know what needs to be done to get it finally on the road!

It failed on:

2 x front to rear brake lines

1x passenger front brake line

1 x drop link

Advisories on the following:

1x head light alignment

Play on passenger wishbone

excessive pressure build up in fuel tank

Before the MOT I managed to replace these old things:

with my lovely stainless ones:

I've now replaced the 3 brakelines, all made out of genuine VW green steel, was a nice job to do as it goes which makes a change :)

Fuel tank pressue issue was a trapped breather pipe, so just dropped the tank and re-routed the pipe, no pressure build up anymore.

The headlight alignment was an easy one, I just needed to swap a headlight lense as it was off a left hooker.... while I was at it, i replaced the reflector as the old one was in a bad state:

Before:

After:

After discovering the captive nut on my current sub-frame had snapped, I now needed to replace the front subframe :@ which means big work! so being a man that does things properly, I've had a new sub-frame blasted and powder coated;

379253_10150869991129132_1148360756_n.jpg

Freshly powder coated wishbones with genuine uprated R32 bushes:

Now need to get all the bolts, fasteners, clamps and remaining bushes to do it properly....

I also want to fit a new oil cooler as the oil was running a little hotter than I would like... and need a couple of exhaust hangers for the mid section as they have stretched a little.

Bit the bullet and fitted the roof rubbers at a bargain price of £145... but they do look good!

New gearbox plate too as mine went missing in action...

556075_10150721444271904_1506091653_n.jpg

I've also bought some toys for it :) Had a 3.68 fitted to a refurrbed gearbox at Stealth Racing, new bearing, seals etc...

and some schimmel 263 cams ;)

my injectors are also off being restored at Mr Injector http://mrinjectoruk.co.uk/ to make sure I have a good spray pattern...

This is how it stands at the moment, after wrapping the OBD2 loom fully, and have also fitted a battery jacket to finish off the engine bay;

Unfortunatly by the time I get the sub-frame done, gearbox fitted and cams winter will be almost upon us again so looking like I'll get it MOT'ed this year and insure it May next year! oh well... better make sure things are right ! hopefully will be worth the wait....

Getting there now... honestly so excited now!

Real nice ive read this right from the beginning. But why mot it then not insure it? You'd just be wasting your valid mot time. Better just to get the mot just before insuring no?

Hi mate. I'm doing it primarily as its only going be on the road during summer months and would like some overlap between insuring / tax / mot so it's not hitting wallet all in one hit at the start of the show season :)

Been a busy couple of weeks here!

First of all my injectors went off to Mr Injector for a full service, they are in much better shape now.

I've also been building up my list of parts to be fitted in next couple of weeks, these are:

Refurbed Starter Motor

Rebuilt 3.68 gearbox

Mountain of powdercoated brackets / gearbox end plate etc...

Samco Hoses

263 cams

Refurbed injectors

Freshly powder coated sub-frame

Freshly powder coated wishbones with R32 bushes

New gas boot struts

ARB drop links / mounts

Valeo Clutch with new release arm

New freshly sprayed slam panel

Exhaust rubbers

New Oil cooler

Genuine grill / vr6 badge

I think that's about it... Phase one tomorrow, fitting cams and injectors, fixing up wiring loom after the mouse attack lol.
