Guest
Hi All, I hope someone can advise.I was driving one day and hit the curve, causing the anti roll bar to bend on the right hand side.I had the drop links and anti roll bar changed, and alignment done again. The car still was pulling to one side so went back their, they said one of the camber angle were out slightly and mentioned something about toe in or toe out.But what I am finding now is that, steering feels more heavier and not as light as before, also when I driving, not as smooth as before. I can feel a slight shudder from steering and even very slight shudder from Tyre itself. Maybe this is wheel balancing ?Also when pulling off in 1st gear feels different at 3000 rpm upwards. before was smoother. So higher the revs less smoother drive.Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks.
sacvwgolf 0
could be a buckled wheel??
Guest
There is no damage to the rim that I can see. when you say buckled wheel can this be fixed by wheel balancing im not too sure can you explain please?
VR6Pete 1,455
if your wheel is shaped like an egg, no amount of balancing can sort that out.you could try and swap your wheels see if the problem transfers with the wheels.could have damaged your steering rack if you went with a good enough pelt.dont ever buy a rack from GSF, you will be replacing it a year down the line like I had to. Guest
As far as I could see, it is not shaped like an egg, looks as normal, shall I still try wheel balancing or I guess swap the sides over and see if it still does it again ?The right wheel is not as smooth as before. VR6Pete 1,455
ok, so that was slighty eggagerated (pun intended) point being, it may not look buckled, but it still could be.given swapping the sides over is cheaper than balancing, do that first, you've got nothing to loose. CALICO 130
swap wheels even try taking the suspect wheel off and trying another you may not be able to see visually if it is egg shaped
CALICO 130
where iS the best place to buy a rack then please Pete
VR6Pete 1,455
I ended up going to VW for my second rack, the ones from GSF are referbes, and after a while it started to pull to the left, and was easier to turn the wheel one wat than the other.its pricey, but was worth it ion the end. Guest
Hi All, I finally had some work done,I had a second opinion, I had the Tyre checked to see if it was unbalanced, it was only slightly out. That didn't make much of a difference, so I took to a vw specialist, he spotted that tracking and alignment needed and also subframe was slightly outta place also with one of the mounts were lose the front right one which caused play in shaking inc torque steer. However I had all this fixed but even that new mount put in reduced the shaking but I aim still getting same symptoms as before inc:- juddering from steering- uneven weight ratio on steering / turncircle, still pulls- when you turn left feels more weighty than other side- at highspeeds shaking and there is play when driving on a straight with the direction, so every now and again it feels like their is a slight pull now and again also car is still pulling to left even after laser align and tracking.Has anybody any ideas:For the weight the mechanic said it may be steering rack but could this cause the other symptons I am enconutering?Sorry for long post just trying to be as clear as I can.
