MarkGolf 6
My friend has just gone and bought a 225bhp TT with an exhaust and nothing else perofrmance enhancing, god knows where the dosh came from, well...He's got all big headed and giving it all the large saying how he'll still piss on my car when the VR's in...Can't remember the figures of a 225 TT, but if we were to have a traffic light GP, who'd win... Based on car, not driver skills...My engine is;2.9 corrado lumplightened flywheellightened crank pulleyCosworth FilterPorted exhaust manifoldDecat pipestainless 2.5" systemWith/withoutQuaiffe ATB diffI know the TT's are fairly quick from experience of driving them and the on road handlin isn't bad, especailly comapred to the Golf! The 4wd doesn't help on traffic light GP's too, so i actually think he's got the upper hand here, sadly! Get saving for my charger me thnks! !dodge Just interested !amazed
mightyvr6 0
If you can get off the mark I'd say you'd have a good chance of beating a TT. I left a 225 TT surprisingly easily with just a k@n + 2.9 and they can't compete with a charged vr either.
dubloke 4
tbh, they aint all that, apart from the 4wd which helps them away a litle, a well sorted vr will outpace one once moving and a charged one will destroy them! hence me getting a charger! bring it on! gazbrook 0
i beat one the other day, fairly easily,it had the upper hand on the motorway bends but on the straights i left him. I bet he was gutted as he was trying to show off to his mate at the time
acf8181 0
you should be able to keep up with him, but you'll have to drive the wheels off the mkIII.my mate has a 225bhp S3, which is basically the same car, they weigh a fair bit more than the mkIII, and the 4wd ain't very good (its haldex not permanent 4wd). if the guys an avergae driver it should be very easy for you, if he can half drive it will be tougher, but as long as theres no long corners (which is where the 4wd and ESP really help) you should be able to keep up no probs. Eat this 2
straight line i reckon id do him so u should DEFFO leave him a single exhaust 1 (180 bhp arnt they?) tried to get away from me on the mway once i had 4 adults in and i was pushin him up the road
Nerih 0
ive been pushed up the road by a mk4 golf gti (dunno which variant) when i had 5 adults in the car with loads of luggage, i got to about *** before i had to chicken out.,
nickg123 0
I've driven my Parents 225TT and it's DOG SLOW - My Dad's 180bhp Skoda Octavia VRS Feels faster to drive!Once moving i expect you'll beat him, but as you say off the line is going to be hard..... six appeal 53
Have beat both 225BHP TT and 225BHP S3's (friends have them so I know they were trying damn hard!) on traffic light grandprix's and motorway. I think the Haldex system must swallow a fair bit of power judging by there performance compared to my VR?
mark@vagworx 0
Off the line, i doubt you'd get away tbh, but once rolling you should be able to keep up.But, once it's chipped, you won't stand a chance.
MarkGolf 6
I know you can launch TT's, when I rag my companies ones, they shoot from the line which is defo an important bit in a sprint..Spose I'll have to put more bodywork off and get the charger... lol

Valver 0
Don't forget Mark - the 225 TT's are actually only putting out about 150-160bhp atw - similar to VR power so I think you'd definitely give them a scare.....As stated, the haldex saos loads of power - I've seen a graph for a V6 4motion with chip which was pushin 240bhp atf but only had 150 atw!!!! that 90bhp drivetrain losses!! %-
nickg123 0
That's insane!!! No wonder they don't feel very quick........ My Dad's Skoda is only Fwd so i guess that has 1/2 the Transmission loss of the TT explaining why it seems as quick??What about the 3.2 with that DSG box? I've heard good things about that! acf8181 0
i've seen on some site that the bhp to weight of the S3 is 160bhp/ton, and the vr6 is 140bhp.ton...but thats worked out from official bhp figures...so 174bhp for the vr6, and we all know vr6's tend to be a bit more than that.i'm pretty sure both cars are nigh on even...so it'll come down to the drivers.[ Edited Fri Nov 26 2004, 12:32PM ]
MarkGolf 6
LOL!The V6 4motion does feel slow in comparison to the VR6, no way near as 'RAW'...TT's though, they did feel quick when I've driven them, quitequick for a car that is 'that' refined, normally you don't feel the speed...Hopefully my silverstone lessons will help! lol
acf8181 0
what silverstone lessons mark?

Does make you a bit more cocky on the road though, did me!
acf8181 0
i dunno...when i've been on track i find i drive slower on the road as it is just crap in comparison. although i do have a nasty habbit of still being in 'race' mode whenh i get onto the a43 (braking for the roundabouts very late form high speed! lol)doing proper race tiotion does in prove your road skills loads..after i finished my course i could tell i was looking sooo much further ahead. money well spent thats for sure.
