scott8629 0
After spending much cash on a new coil pack for my VR6 its running nice.Apart from the coolant and oil temp is not getting up to running temp.Looking back on previous posts its seems the thermostat is faulty.Im going to get one of these soon but where should I get it from eithe VW or GSF (can you recomend me any more places)?Does anyone know the aprox cost of the thermostat? Also are there any guides on changing these on the Net?I have changed one on a 205 but never the VR.Thnaks Scott[ Edited ]
VR6Rich 3
If you are replacing the thermostat then you may as well get an uprated one. Awesome sell Neuspeed ones for £16.Heres the link : http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/vw%20golfmk3/engine.html
chrisgbrindley 0
I was thinking about getting one of them, will it keep the car cool so it take longer to warm up?I was thinking about getting one in the spring when you need the heater less.

MarkGolf 6
I just ordered the Fan switch and Thermo from there, soory to subjet change, but there's that pipercross high flow oil filter... Would it fit a VR6?
Slim 0
No, the oil filter is no use for a VR6, I bought one myself after Awesome said it would....
dubloke 4
mark-do they do the switch for the vr6 engine? i thought they only stocked the switch for the gti and 4-cyl engines as i asked this question some while back? the 180 switch will not be any advantage with the 160 thermostat i wouldnt think! robvr6 0
so what are the symptoms of a dodgy thermostat ? either over heating or very solw to warm up,if it ever reaches 'running temp' anything else ?
scott8629 0
The symptoms on my VR6 are the water temp needle will get upto half way when in traffic, on the open rd it will only go upto 1/4 of the way up the guage.Oil temp will not go above 85 degCWater should sit at 90 all day long when warmed up and oil between 94-104 depending on how you drive. robvr6 0
hmm, well mine must be well gone then, water temp guage rarely gets out of the white and oil temp doesnt go over 80, mines in today to be done, they just phoned to say the 'stat was knacked and also the housing was cracked so they couldn't guarantee it wouldn't leak, so have to wait until tomorrow to get car back.. so what are the consequenses[sp] of a dodgy thermostat ?[ Edited Mon Nov 29 2004, 03:12PM ]
