SW VR6 0
Hello,I have a standard '97 Golf VR6 with 88k on the clock Couple of things bugging me at the moment - just wondered if anyone could shed any light on them...1. Car is getting through a lot of oil. I estimate that I have used around 3 litres in the last 2,000 miles! I can't see evidence of any leaks (although my investigations could not be described as exhaustive), and I get no smoke from the exhaust (at least not that I've noticed). For info, I use Synta Gold (fully synthetic). The only two clues I have are that a) I can sometimes smell an 'oily' smell when the engine is hot and its damp/raining and my exhaust (it's the original!) seems to be blackened on the end of the pipe. 2. The MFA and stereo have re-set themselves a couple of times recently. I've checked the battery terminlas and they both seem ok. Any ideas?Any advice / info greatly appreciated.Cheers... acf8181 0
1. well, synta gold is prob a bit thin for a start, try using synta silver and see if that cures it.2. pos 1 on the MFA resets after a couple of hours of ignition off. not usre on the stereo.
Eat this 2
im usin 5-40 full synthetic and it does use a little more than 10-40 semi but nowhere near 3 litres in 2k it prob uses about 3/4 in 3k when i get the oil changed anyway

SW VR6 0
It might be coincidence, but mine has re-set twice when the temp has dropped below freezing over night.
bazz780 0
does the stereo malfunction now and then?? does the car start first time all the time???oil as far as i know uses 1 litre per 1000 miles
