fastmonkey 0
HiBeen to see a mk2 today with a VR6 lump in, car checked out ok, however main area of concern was the sump which had been scraped and what I believe to be the join to the gearbox which looked slightly seperated and leaking oil all be it very slowly. Also the sump area and the like had lots of oil dirt around it so assumed this was pretty normal. Also there was some slight oil deposits on the drivers side edge of the engine. Unfortunately I am not mechanicly minded...(yet.....) so I wanted some advice as to what these faults could be and how serious they are and likely cost of fix ? Hope someone could help ?Here is the drivers side edge of engineHere is the scraped sump Here is the crack/split/break in the sump to gearbox

(sack it off tho cos its expensive, get one of them pipercross filters or summit...think im right?)2 - yea, thats pretty normal lol they sit low. although that looks pretty dented too.3 - thats fine imo, its jus a cover. bash it back in place, or its only to 10mm bolts that hold it on, take it of and flatten it outany more pics? Phat VR6 3
gfs still do sumps. Its hard to tell how much oil its loosing. rocker is hardly anything, If oil is dripping on the floor then you have to worry about it. It could just be a built up over the last 12 years and 100,000+ miles, If its hardly loosing any oil personally i wouldn't bother doing anything.Only thing you have to watch out for is the oil leak on the N/S of the sump (buy the gearbox), this COULD be your crank seal. if its bad then you can get oil on the clutch causing it to slip. to change the crank seal the gearbox has to come off. then while your doing it you will probably end up doing the chains at the same time.take the cover plate off and have a look under it, its its quite clean inside there then happy days. full of oil id take into consideration that the crank seal might need changing.personally id carry on driving it till i was loosing a considerable amount of oil or it was dripping on the floor. then id look further into it. you won't be damaging anything, just costing a few ££ a month in oil
DanH 1
bodge speaks sense. u say its dripping in pic 3, if its dripping from here.......................it could be a bit of a bigger job. anywhere else is fine lol. there a bit of oil down the block i see so could just be oil cooler..... fastmonkey 0
Well thanks to all the replies on here I took the plunge and bought the car. I need to use it as a daily for a while so I've booked it straight into a specialist for a once over and get the sump sorted. Now i've had a proper look underneath with someone who knows what they are doing it looks like an impression of the oil pump in the sump cover ! This could mean the oil pump is damaged and is not moving the oil round so I have left it with them to sort out.
DanH 1
well done, good choice! haha!that'll be the oil pick-up....mines got a mark on the inside of the sump where it hit, had a look and was no damage so put it all back together - no probs at all!
