jonny-5 10
My climatronic system fails to light up. When I bought it there were no bulbs in the facia panel, I got the new bulbs today from VW and still nothing, has anyone got any ideas?. The panel has been replaced at some point with one with the ECO button (what does this do by the way?) would this have something to do with it?
Rikki 2
Eco means economy either runs with less aircon power or just normal blowers dont know which! As for the light what bulbs are they?
jonny-5 10
Yeh i kinda guessed it meant economy! I meant in technical terms, what happends when I press it?They are the standard bulbs, got them from the stealers yesterday. I'm thinking of diconnecting the battery to see if it resets it some how. Matt W 4
Econ means the air con is turned off that's all and therefore the car is running more economically (less load on the engine). As to illumination should just be able to change out the bulbs, they are a twist fit so make sure they are fully in place before twisting into place or they won't make full contact. jonny-5 10
Ah I see, guessed it was something like that.I have fitted new bulbs and disconnected the Climatronic unit in an attempt to reset it, but the unit still fails to light. My new idea is that there may be a problem with the illumination feed as sometimes the back lights on the clocks fail to light up (eventually does after about 5-10 mins of drving) and also the hand brake warning light often flickers or completely fails to light up. Could they all be connected some how?
Matt W 4
hmm, sounds more likely a bad earth some where and probably one for the lighting circuit.Check all the earth points, the main interior one on the A pillar under the dashboard. Its a large brown "sort of octagon shapped brown plug"...
jonny-5 10
Yeh that's what I thought, I had a look at the big earth block on the a-pillar but couldn't see any thing obvious. Is there any test I could do to find the faults? (I have a multimeter) Or any other things to check? Thanks for the help so far
vw_golf_vr6 0
yea does sound like an earth fault, or fault on the 12v side of the dash illumination cct, is any voltage present at the bulb connectors?
jonny-5 10
It's very hard to check as the connections cannot be easily accessed, but i'll have a go and get back to you
