My electric windows are not working!

Recommended Posts

Ive now got a problem with my drivers side electric window not working. The passenger side is fine and I belive they are on the same fuse, so I have ruled that out. I can hear the switch working and a click from I presume the relay. Is it likely to be a worn out motor?

Anyone know if there is anything else to try or how much it would be to replace?

Check the wires inside the rubber sleeves that go between the body and the doors. The constant opening/closing of the door can cause the insulation on some of these wires to crack. This in turn exposes the wire to corrosion, causing it to weaken and eventually break altogether. It's a known problem on the Mk3 Golf and Corrado.

The rubber sleeves pull back easily enough, so checking them isn't a problem.

The windows are all connected to the same circuit, so a boken wire for the o/s rear door could stop your n/s front window from working, or even stop them all from working. Be sure to check ALL doors.

The next most probable cause of 'leccy window problems is the switch, although if you can hear the relay engaging when you press the switch, the switch is probably OK.

The cable mechanism can fail too. With the door trim off, it will be easy to see if you have a frayed or broken cable. Fortunately, the mechanism can be replaced independently from the motor at a cost of £50 from VW.

Hope this helps!

my passenger side window doesnt follow up after a burst on the button, that probably doesnt make sense lol. after 2 seconds pressin up on the drivers side it goes up on its own, but the passenger side does not do this. it goes up fine when holding the button all the way. is this normal or has something went wrong?
