markmarky0 0
i have just replaced the belt tensioner pully and my engine still humms, always on idle, barely noticable when driving along. But it sometimes turns into a rattle noise. any ideas ? i herd it could be water pump ??
Kelster 0
My water pump only really made a noise when I did a hard lock either way so might not be that. Could the rattle be the chains ? how many miles has it done ?
Bigjobbo 0
Sounds like water pump bearings. Take the belt back off and check for play.
markmarky0 0
if its pump bearings, does tht mean i just need a new water pump, or water pump puly ? like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-GOLF-VENTO-VR6-CORRADO-SHARAN-VR6-WATER-PUMP-C436_W0QQitemZ190288341588QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item2c4e11aa54
McPikie 3
You need a new water pump. Only took me 2hours my first time round. Do it before it locks up and breaks your belt too. Easy enough. hard part was getting the engine up high enough to wiggle it out without the lamba probe bending on the bodywork
markmarky0 0
water pump changed and it still humms, so its not water pump or tensioner for auxilery belt. does this mean its the chain ?or the chain tensioner ? which part could it be , and anyone know how much it will cost ? a link to a part would be great !!thanks
markmarky0 0
anyone have any more ideas ? could it be chain guides ? its quite loud but not sure which side its coming from. And the noise goes and comes back all the time. But then can hardly hear it when traveling alon 20mph plus
VR6Nat 9
The chain noise comes from the right side of the block and you cant really hear it at tick over, if you get someone to sit and rev the car to 1500 revs, have a listen in the engine bay to the right of the block as you look at it and if there's a rattle there it will be your chains... thats a costly job... so hope for your sake its not that... markmarky0 0
this noise is like a high pitch humm, most apparent when on idle . what does the chain sound like ?if its like the link on this website, my car doesnt sound like the chains. More of a bearing sound i think ,hmmmm what else could it be, only replaced auxilery belt tensioner and water pump
VR6Nat 9
well it doesnt sound like your chains then cuz when they are going you know about it. lol.where exactly is this noise coming from??
markmarky0 0
sounds close to the head towards the middle, but it could be something bolted to the head for all i know, maybe best to go to a grage and ask them ??
markmarky0 0
found the problem it was the aircon pump, now 2 questions, 1. do i need the pump 2. is there a belt setup i can use that will allow me to run the engine without it ?
McPikie 3
Pretty sure you can remove it, but you may need a bracketr from a non-aircon car/alt set up and that belt??
