VR6Nat 9
Is it the coilpack model?? if so, Have you checked your coilpack for cracks?? sounds like it will more than likely be the damp getting inside it and causing the misfire...
ginga_d 0
how do i know if its the coilpack model?(sorry for being a dumbass)

VR6Nat 9
hmmm, thats bizaare, there is def no hairline cracks on it?? does this only happen when its wet?
VR6Pete 1,455
at night, pop the bonnet, spray some a fine myst of water on the coilpack, see if you can see it arching.also, check your plugs / leads are securty in place.
ginga_d 0
it is strange coz when i bought him it rained the whole week had no probs at all. just happened over the last week. definately no cracks at all not really any dampness or wet in any of the bay either
VR6Nat 9
yeah as pete says, check how the leads are seated, make sure they are all pushed down ok and securely in the coilpack too...
ginga_d 0
just had a thought i disconnected the battery last week for couple minutes. this wont have anything to do withit???hammering it down at mo gonna have another look when (if)its stopped raining
Ben Seabrook 4
just because there are no cracks on the outside doesn't mean the coilpack isn't knackered !! do what Pete has suggested and make sure all the plugs and leads are on tightly
Rikki 2
Like Ben says might still be knackered....took my coilpack off the other day as i had the same missin in the rain, no sparks!! even with the spray trick. Scrubbed the pack clean and found about 10 cracks!!
ginga_d 0
just thought i better update. been tippin it down today thought i'd take bowz out to work. expected mis fire but no, purrin like a beauty. strange but im happy again
sparkyjr 0
I have had the same problem last winter, changed my coil pack leads, plugs and lots of other things. Ran fine all summer upuntil last sat after a day of driving rain then sorted it self next time i drove it, could it be dampness or driving rain going on to my (bmc) air filter ? ?
nastyvryo 0
yea i had the same problem and i just waited till it was dark out and i saw it arching.
shail 0
I've just 'bodged' my coil pack last night. Took it off to find cracks on the top surface and bottom surface, and a couple on the front face, and the little plastic clip on cover was warped letting water in, causing corroison of the contacts under the plastic cover. I have coated the the entire plastic section with JB Weld epoxy, and also epoxyed the plastic cover. Hopefully that'll stop it running like a dog when its damp.
Rikki 2
Yea same thing i did....cured the damp misfire but still running like a dog!! But then my coilpack was date stamped 7.1997!!!!! OE lol
sparkyjr 0
This is my hesitation problem (helps if you use head phones). It did it again yesterday after 2 hours of stop start shopping then lfrt it for 2 hours no rain or damp then did this until left it over night.Thought it may be junk in fuel filter but only happens when engaging clutch after and standing start. Any suggestions would be welcomed as it only seems to do it over the winter period.
ginga_d 0
sorry but youexplain arching? im confused
shail 0
Arcing - electricity jumps from one place to another through the air.In the case of a coil pack, you can see 'sparks' flying out from the body of the coilpack onto the HT leads. Normally caused by cracks in the plastic cover to the coilpack.Check out this vid on Youtube:
sparkyjr 0
Update on my fault think i have fixed it (touch wood) changed fuel filter .

kawark 0
I HAVE AN INTERMITTENT MISFIRE ON THE CLOCKS WHEN DRIVING BETWEEN 2000 AND 3000 RPM. Changed the plugs and leads and did seem to run better but clocks still show the misfire. I don't hear any misfire but rev counter flicks about when it happens. Could happen with town or motorway driving. Any ideas?? Coil Pack??
goonersteve 0
If it happens when weather is wet, then chances are it's the coilpack. Have you tested for arcing on the coilpack?
VR6Nat 9
Yeah as Steve says, more than likely your coilpack, check it for cracks, they can be fixed but might be easier to get a new one....
