kaptainkernow 0
Hi,In an effort to making my VR sound a bit nicer, I fitted a Scorpian back box, and it didn't really give me the growl I was after. The exhast is looking a bit tired so I'm thinking I will get a new system. I don't know if i should get one made by my local Longlife exhast place, or buy one?I spoke to someone at Demon Tweeks and he said, "Longlife use universal silencers, wouldn't you prefer buying a system that has been designed for your specific car". I just wonder if he is right? A silencer is just different in bore size and flow, isn't it? Oh, and also should I get rid of the CAT? My VR is a P reg, will it fail the mot?Cheers. Miss-Vw 2
Without a cat, your car will fail the MOT on the emissions test. Mine failed a couple of weeks ago because of this so I found out the hard way. Ive now got a cat on my exhaust and to be honest, I actually prefer the new sound. Its got more of a purr and sounds healthier. De-cat exhausts are meant give slightly more power gains but I havnt noticed much of a difference with mine on. Ive got a straight through custom made exhaust with a dual back box which was VERY loud and burbled alot, its still got a lovely tone to it which turns alot of heads. You dont necessarily need to go down the branded names i.e - Scorpion, Miltek etc - although popular, you can get a custom made exhaust with the sound you want.
Damo 85 0
Keep the CAT as mentioned. I went with a JETEX 3 box system for mine. really reasonably priced, perfect fit (if a little wonky on the old hangers!). sounds very subtle but if your giving it some beans and get everything nice and hot (like a motorway run) it burbles really nice. you can also get a two box version which i believe is a bit louder. jesterwalker69 0
I have a Longlive custom made full straight through system - no cat.Mine past the MOT and is pretty aggressive sounding! I have to admit it can start to do my head in at a constant 40-50 in 5th like in motorway road works. But then drop it and floor it as u exit and everyone knows about it lol
jesterwalker69 0
Oh and its always fun setting off car alarms as u drive down the street and give it beans (up to 30mph no more obviously) through 1st/2nd!
kcw 1
Is there any performance gains using stainless steel as opposed to mild? I've got a welder but don't think its suitable for welding stainless and making my own exhaust would save alot of money.
MarksMintness 0
Hi guys, hope you don't mind me chipping in as I will probably change my exhaust next year.I hear good things about Dubpower (HT Lleads, manifolds etc...) but I notice they also do a full stainless system for the VR6. Does anybody here use this system or know if it's any good?
SamboVr6 0
I know they are not particularly well known but every backbox i have had including my current one have been from Essex Racing. They are reasonably priced and i think they sound great. Personal opinion obviously. My brothers both have backboxes from them too. My 1st car which unfortunately was a Punto had one on and i have to say i have never heard anything quite so mental 8o|I have a low profile oval on my vr at the mo and it isn't ridiculously loud but sounds amazing.
