olly_p 1
I have been quoted £70 to do my pass front bearing, how hard are they to change?
russj249 2
need to remove the hub from the car and put it in a hydraulic press and press the old ones out and new ones in. £70 would be 2 hours labour ish so if that's including parts it's not too bad. Unless you have hydraulic press not much luck of doing them yourself.
craggsy 91
Its doable as ive done mine with a hammer and old socket and an old bearing race to get new one in.....but took more than a few hours. If you can take hub off and take it to a garage to press ol dbearing out and new one in, be a bit cheaper
olly_p 1
Yeah I have done the hammer and socket thing, I will remove hub and take it in. Thanks for the replys!
russj249 2
I know about the hammer and socket method, that's the way I use sometimes at work! Does no harm to the bearings with the right sockets.I didn't want to say as I didn't know mechanical knowledge and didn't want anyone to start bashing it with hammer and sockets and end up getting it stuck or the bearings out with the outer casing stuck in the hub But yea if you can do the hammer and socket way by all means cheapest to do and easily do-able on the drive with a spare afternoon! craggsy 91
I always cut the old bearing raceso it can come out easier

forge_vw 0
HiIf you strip it down and take it to a garage with your bearing they would be glad to replace it for you as they dont have all the stripping & assembling to do.If you lived closer I would put it in for you mateChris K
