russj249 2
I've done a lot of searching on here about cams, but 99% of people are thinking about FI in the near future.I want some cams for mine that won't effect the engine's idle much but has a noticable performance advantage.I know the main ones 268, 264's etc etc but want to know what is best as I WONT be going FI soon. This is the problem I am having with the search tool..Also how hard are they to fit.. It's the timin thing I'm bit worried about, when I did the chains i did the whole lot but don't know how easy to time it up with just top chain removed. I did cams on my mates focus y'day for him and cambelt and took me about 5 hours just going steady on the drive.
cabrioman 6
if ur not goin Fi then i say 268s will give u a slighty lumpy idle but it not that bad soul-2-soul has them and oille thas them give good performance .... and take 2 maybe 3 hours to do .... timing aint a prob aslong as u use the tool or simlar
russj249 2
cheers TonyI made the cam locking tool when I did the timing chains.. I suppose I'll just have to keep as much tension on the chains as possible when the cams are off.Do the cams have a key way so they will only go on one way? My mates focus rely's purely on friction between nut and cams!
russj249 2
also forgot to ask, how much BHP roughly do they give..I have 6 branch manifold, de-cat, air filter in front bumper and is just over 180bhp at the moment..I want to know how much roughly it'll be with just cams, and cams with remap for everything else too. cabrioman 6
yeah there is a key way on the chain gear end and u wont need to keep the tensoin on the lower chain as u wont be be touchin it when u take the top chain off just cable tie it up somewhere and u should be ok
russj249 2
ah ok.. just wanted to make sure that the top chain didn't come off the intermediate sprocket so that it would be ok without having to re-time them. What should I do about the valves. Will the standard ones be ok? I should I replace the hydraulic lifters of anything.Anything you can do without taking the head off basicly.
cabrioman 6
no the top chain wont need to come off the intermediate sprocket .. can fitt new lifters if they are a bit noisy but up to u as for valves standard will be fine mate
russj249 2
ok cheers for the info Tony..Been watching on youtube and they do seem to effect the engine revs on idle a lot.. annoying really as I do 95% of my miles in town and traffic. Only the dry saturdays with mates that it comes into use.
matty.vrt 120
I had drc 268 cams and it used to idle like stock.
russj249 2
hmmm.. how does everyone else's seem to run with 268 cams?My mates focus has tonnes more power but sometimes cuts out on idle it's that bad
soul-2-soul 3
Hi, As Tony said I have Schrick 268's on mine. It does effect the idle but not much & only the trained ear really will notice. No issues on cutting out etc. They also pull really well
motocrossmad 0
In the new year i'm going to be looking at buying and fitting some cams for my 2.8. I am undecided between 263's and 268's.When i have it re-mapped for the cams will that rais the rev limmiter as well? I would imagine with cams in, they would 'like' to rev more. VR6Tuner 0
Opinon: Don't bother with anything less than 268.Worst case set idle at ~770-800rpm, instead of std. LOW 700rpm.Going FI: Keep the 268. 1000% myth that a 'common' cam should not be used with boost.
AJmk2 2
Idle should be fine , my friend has 288 cams in his corsa and no cutting out on idle.
