Off to the scappy, for ABS bits. but what bits do I need?

Hi,

I've had my VR for about 8 months now, and the ABS has never worked. My very freindly MOT man said that someone has taken the warning light bulb out!!

I have toyed with the idea of removing the ABS altogether, which I still might resort to. But my local scap yard has a VR around the same year as mine. I'm thinking that I might as well see if I can fix my ABS with parts from the scappy, but I'm not sure which bits I need?

The ABS pump is at the back of the engine bay. ? And I think it has a ECU of its own. ?

Are they in the same unit? If not where is the ABS ECU?

ps. I nearly forgot...If i do remove the ABS, and fit a bias valve to balance up the front and back brake pressures, how does that work? Do you need a bias valve for each brake (ie 4), or just front and back?

yeah the abs unit is at the back ofthe bay slightly to the right as you look at it mate the ECU is under the rear seats in a 5 door and under the pasenger seat in a 3 door.

Thanks mate. Is that the main ECU? Do I have to change it if I use an ABS pump from another car?

no that's the ABS ECU and no you don't as long as the new ABS unit is from the same year car you should be fine - changed mine and had no issues

Not sure if its extactly the same year, but I know it's and OBD 2. Do you think it'll be ok?

Hmm I think so mate, I don't think mine was from the exact same year but as you say it was the same OBD, I have heard about peeps having to have them re-coded but not sure what caused this !

Obd2 ecu is under the pump in the engine bay. Make sure you get an identical part number and you may need vagcom to code it as....you need to get a key using vagcom before you remove the ecu and code the new one if its different!
