roosevelt1st 1
Hi, just checked out the musty smell in the missus' 95 GTi (5 door) tracked it to water in boot. Boot mat has soaked it up good, water in recesses for wire clips on rear edge of boot, maybe coming thru lights??? also wiring loom on passenger side soaked it up and (I think) carried water thru rear seats into base of rear seats, anyone experienced this?can anyone confirm its lights or boot seal have checked rear washer pipe and its dry and not broken/cracked....any ideas appreciated to save an expensive investigation by a garage!cheers
shail 0
I have exactly the same issue. Rear footwell was wet, so thought it may be sunroof leak. But noticed boot carpet wet too. I've had this issue before on a mk3, and I'm nearly certain its the foam seals on the rear lights again. check yours - remove bulb holder from boot, and un bolt the lights and withdraw to inspect seal. tjsmudger 2
I thought I had a water leak the other week, turns out I had left my half empty/full Camelbak in the boot with the valve unlocked!! Took me an hour checking where this leak had come from!!!
RAPgolfvr6182 2
rear spoiler is the common place for golfs to leak from water drips through the holes that hold the spoiler on

Scott 0
I have just put a new tailgate on mine, and came time to swap the number plate.....there were 2 open unplugged holes in the centre of the plate recess, well away from the screws that mounted the plate on, and if I hadnt had the plate off, would never have known they were there, and water would have pissed into the inner door skin then into the inside.......Also the hinges may not be adjusted to give a tight seal around the door.
