luckstar69 0
Hi there, I bought a V6 4Motion on Sat and I think I bought a bit of a pig, I love the car but not the problems I have with it. On the way home it started squeaking on the o/s/r wheel. It turns out the caliper is clamping on as maybe its sticky and this over time has caused the Haldex ECU to fail. Below is a list of things my local VW specialist has recommended. The car now has ABS light on and the handbrake light on, it wont go off, I think they jammed the caliper even tighter on the disc, its really rubbing now and I'm worried its gonna mess up the disc and pad and mess up the 4wd!They said the Haldex ECU could be fvcked becaused the caliper is jammed on and confused all the sensors into controlling the rear diff on the Haldex system.I am franticly shopping around for a used Haldex ECU and having no l luck. Any idea where I can get a cheap HALDEX ECU from?Any help/advice would be appreciated. Thank you.I'll show you the list they have written up for me, part, lab time then total cost.....Haldex ECU - 2hrs - £838Lambda B2 S1 - 1 - £174Rear ARB bushes - 1.5 -£145Front ARB bushes and clamps - 1.5 - £189o/s/f outer CV boot - 1.5 - £119n/s tie rod arm & end - 1 - £160o/s/r caliper - 1 - £
VR6Pete 1,455
Is that an assumption from the garage? The first thing I would do is to get it on the VAG-COM it will give you all the fault codes stored on the ECU.I would start by unsticking the caliper - I think 220 for a rear caliper is a bit much! luckstar69 0
Thanks for replying. They used VAG_COM but they didnt give me the fault codes. I have friend who can plug me in and look them up on his laptop.
bungy 2
Sounds all a bit strange but could be broken down into parts alot cheaper to sort out. Sounds like they are fishing for work but that is my personal opinion.1. Disconnect / bypass Haldex for now free2. Lambda replace at local exhaust fitter part + £35 labour3. Rear ARB bushes do yourself £20-£304. Front ARB bushes and clamps £505. CV boot VW item + fitment by specialist £1006. Tie rod and arm + fitment £807. second hand caliper £20-£30Altogether less than £250 which is still steep and Haldex would still need sorting at a later date. Might be worth looking into an aftermarket warranty.

bungy 2
http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1525861Alot of information here and some that hints that the Haldex will protect itself rather than get damaged by brakes binding or handbrake left on. Quite a bit of reading and I only scanned through. As for position of ECU, it is on the unit itself. Aftermarket ECU"s are cheaper than oem ones and there is a 4mo in a scrapyard near me at the moment. You could get a caliper and ecu from there.
luckstar69 0
Sounds good, thank you. Do you have their details please? I can try them, Will they post to me?
b road blaster 0
if it was mine i would get the brakes sorted and runing free then get all the fault codes cleared then go for a drive and when you come back recheck the codes and see whats reappered and take it from there
