Tris 0
me and a mate are doing a vr6 as a track car and are looking into brakes.we will do the 312mm conversion next year but this year would like some that will be a direct replacement.
legvw 0
Why not just stick a set of ebc discs and yellow stuff pads on, should be ok for a sesson.
matty.vrt 120
I fitted some 312mm discs and it was the most pointless conversion ever done made no difference what so ever.Decent discs and pads like paul said will see the best improvement.
Tris 0
Would you say yellow over red then.. thats interesting about the 312...I may look for front and rear discs and pads then thanks.

Tris 0
I will be looking into the 312 conversion next year but this year due to costs I just want a decent standard replacement set up. Plus the above post is not the first I have heard about them being not much better than standard. What could you do the conversion for. Cost wise. Are red stuff over speced for what I want. It won't be used on road apart from driving to the track day
craggsy 91
The jump from 280s to 312s is amazing as its not just disc size that is changing its also pad size.Whereas the jump from 288s to 312s is not as good as its only disc size changing as the pad is the same pad used on 288s and 312s.Personally I could feel the difference between the 288s and 312s when i first put em on
RAPgolfvr6182 2
not not sure for the extra cost of yellow pads to red id go for redstuff but get a set of breaded hoses so pedals feels better also look into some kind of aircool ducting to cool the front brakes down under hard braking
Akeme 0
Do the Audi TT/S3 yellowstuff pads fit the 288mm brake setup?
Akeme 0
I used redstuff at mallory park recently, they faded pretty quick, i dont think they are great for anything other than fast road.
craggsy 91
Do the Audi TT/S3 yellowstuff pads fit the 288mm brake setup?Yes they do...as thats what i order for when buying as they dont list yellows for mk3 vr6
Akeme 0
Cool, thanks for the info, i wont have to pay £225 for pagid greys, as that was my other option.
Tris 0
Well roughly putting a tape across the discs they do look like 280mm not 288 which I thought. so do the complete set up change, 280mm have one size pad 288 have another (and same as TT) ??I can get a set of Mintex that are in between the red and yellow EBC. and from same guy he can do me a set of 6 HEL hoses for about £65 pads are cheaper than EBC and he assures me will out last a set of reds.looking in to discs from him and they are around £40 each fronts grooved waiting a price on rears
craggsy 91
288s/312s have a bigger pad than the 280s
Tris 0
will keep 280 for this year then. grooved discs front and rear HEL hoses and mintex pad front and rear and look at bigger next year. see how I get on
aminder 4
288 standard brake discs (VAG - ~£54 on trade)Mintex M1155 padsHalfords race fluid - a must as normal stuff will boil and spongy pedal feeling after couple of hard sessions
RAPgolfvr6182 2
288s/312s have a bigger pad than the 280smy gf had 280mm discs on her gti n the caliper is different to 288mm discs
Knightrider 1
Talking standard here and on the road. My mate has a VR Corrado with 280s and my Golf VR has the 288s. Even after he fitted new discs and pads F&R, the Golf brakes feel much more powerful. Seems there is a fair difference. Don't know about 312s, not tried them.
