golf harris 0 Posted March 8, 2010 Report Share Posted March 8, 2010 been asked a million times no doubt but i want to change the gb oil on the vr6 and was wondering if the drain plug on box is the one which has the VW logo on it with 2 bolts either side???if not where? and the top up is the big allen headed bolt just above it if some one could tell me what size that is too, 17mm maybe? will 75w 90 gearbox oil be ok or what would you reccomend from gsf,halfrauds? could some one get back to me about the drain plug as its really the only thing im not that sure on to get cracking on with it .thanks in advance. b road blaster 0 Posted March 8, 2010 Report Share Posted March 8, 2010 not sure in the vr6 but its 75w-90 in the 4motion gearbox box have been told to make sure you use the proper vw stuff tho as some other oils can make for a stiff gearchange when cold Link to post Share on other sites

b road blaster 0 Posted March 9, 2010 Report Share Posted March 9, 2010 again 4motion is 2.6 lts but think thats transfer box aswell but i did ask my local vw stealer on sat what oil and he says that you never change it on the mk4 the oil's good for life unless you have a fault also asked anoth vw specialist and he told me the same but do'nt seem right to me so gonna do mine on sat anyway .......yes gfs do the right oil Link to post Share on other sites
golf harris 0 Posted March 9, 2010 Author Report Share Posted March 9, 2010 ok mate cheers for the info !! seems a bit stupid not to change it, all oil gets old in my eyes and having lots of teeth in the gear box churning it up must get mucky and old and its no difference to having to change the engine oil every 4000 miles,thats my 2p worth anyway ,hope your gb oil change goes well anyway cos that sh;t stinks if you get it on your clothes!!!
