VRTDan 0
Cruising along at just over 30mph & as I came to a junction the car starts to chug. Feels under powered, sounds like a timing issue. It's not running on all cylinders, other than plugs or leads, what could cause this? I've had a look under the bonnet & I cant see anything obvious (tho it is dark outside)My mate might be able to pop over with his VAG COM, but that might not be till the weekend.Any suggestions? Thanks
Ben Seabrook 4
if it's when the clutch is pressed in I would say ISV or throttle position sensor mate or MAF needs a clean - had to do that quite a lot with my charged VR (due to position of the air filter I think and the roads I am forced to drive down! )
craggsy 91
Have you aqctually checked condition of plugs and leads?
VRTDan 0
I went like it half hour ago and it's pitch black outside. I have literally been round the engine bay with a torch making sure nothing has come loose or I have no leaks anywhere. I cant do anything till tomorrow night now.Normally if it ever ran rough, the hose had started to come off the intake of the charger,so I'd just put it back on & it would be back to normal, but the hose is looked fine.Maybe the MAF could be a bit coked up, I didn't really give it the usual clear out on the way home?? Ben Seabrook 4
yeah best bet then mate is to wait until daylight and then have a good look first for anything obvious
VRTDan 0
What do you thinks best to clean the MAF up with? A bit of carb cleaner?
Ben Seabrook 4
no mate you need electrical contact cleaner or proper MAF cleaner can get the electrical contact cleaner from Halfords or maplins places like that
cabrioman 6
i had silimar fault was my lambda foo barred .... does it stall ???
J5KE F 0
Does sound like maf to me.. Check connections too!
Rikki 2
Why do people advise on here to clean mafs with carb cleaber....this can make it worse. Use ispropyl alcohol only as it leaves no residue
Ben Seabrook 4
Rikki not seen anyone recommend cleaning it with carb cleaner mate ?? I said not too !!
CALICO 130
some one mentioned using on another thread a couple of days ago DOH!
VRTDan 0
I asked if I should use it not told myself to lol!Where do you get ispropyl ? Not heard of it before?
Ben Seabrook 4
again you can get isopropyl from maplins or a similar electrics place
Rikki 2
Yup deffo maplins....got some to do mine. Wasnt havin a pop at anyone directly there! sorry if it came across like that. But when you switch iff your car the maf heats a wire to over 1000 deg'c, which is thinner than a human hair, to burn off all the s**t! Carb cleaner could screw it completley
VRTDan 0
LOL no worries mate. Fingers crossed that's all it is. I'll get some at lunch time & will look at this one tonight.Cheers

VRTDan 0
The next department to me at work builds PCB circuit boards etc. I’ve had a word with them & said what I had been advised to use by you guys. They said they use something called Fluxclene, which will do the same job & leave no residue, which they can give me a can of.
VRTDan 0
Strange, came home @ lunch time, started the car.... & all is ok?
AJmk2 2
If its missfiring on 2 cylinders could be your coilpack. Mine would missfire all the time and sound horrible and then would just run fine for a while and go bad again.
VRTDan 0
If it was that, would it still show the fault when I plug the VAG COM in?
ginga_d 0
i have just been reading through this and i have exacly th same prob at the mo but with back fire
VRTDan 0
Getting a price on a new coil pack then lol
Ben Seabrook 4
if it's the coilpack go out tonight when its dark start it and then look all around the coilpack for any signs of arcing - you can also take it off and check it for any cracks etc and they are easy to fix with epoxy glue mate
Rikki 2
Spray some water on it too and see if theres any arcing or if the car runs worse
