spadam 7
He means a very fine mist of water from something like a spray bottle to see if the coilpack is arcing. Just dont spray with hose/ pressure washer lol
Ben Seabrook 4
as above from a misting bottle not the hose mate will be fine spray it above the coil and let it fall gently over it
VRTDan 0
LOL can you imagine. I should have an empty squirty bottle kicking about. I'll give a go
AJmk2 2
Yea , when mine had gone i could see some arking at night. Definatly need to shop around though as prices on the packs vary a lot!
VRTDan 0
Trade Parts Centre, with Trade Discount - £155.10!! £235 without!! OUCH!. I think I'll be shopping about!
Ben Seabrook 4
well check yours first mate and if there is a small crack in it you can always just epoxy it up and that lasts for ages
craggsy 91
I bought mine from GSF.....genuine BERU one for less than a ton if i remember correctly. Would have to dig receipt out to confirm that
MJ Vr6 79
Coil pack does'nt always neccesary show arckin when farcked, neither cracks, Some of them can just go...!Check your HT leads as well, as the kinks, heat, can cause missfire too, as seen on a few of the members cars on here...Not mentioning no names..LoL!! (Wedgy, cough cough Widgy, ooops Squidgy!)Oh Yeah... SLCharged-Remember Blue Coconut! LoL!
MJ Vr6 79
PS- If your Coil Pack is busted, it does not show up on VAGCOM.
VRTDan 0
Looked at the car last night. I couldn't see any cracking, or arcking? It was again running fine??I'll probably not get to drive it now till Friday/Saturday, so won't know anymore till then.
Antihero1981 8
what about spark plugs?
golf harris 0
this happend to my missus 97 vr6, running fine one minute then firing on 3/4 cylinders and that was the coil pack had a hair line crack running across it hardly even noticeable really, changed it for a ford galaxy vr6 coilpack and all sweet after that.i also agree with what ,MJ vr6, said in his post that they can just call last orders and die with no visual signs!! get a second hand ford galaxy vr6 one to try as for some reason there a lot cheaper (but identical parts ,even has the vag stamp on it) than a second hand golf vr6 one,
gary.scales 0
aha! does this explain whilst sometimes, (and can, but not always) drive rough in the wet, and can feel like its running on 4 when it is howling down on a motorway run??!! Also had 3 sets of HT leads, all different makes, and all pop off certain spark plugs.... has this thread solved all my running rough sometimes problems!! Where's that torch and spray mist bottle!!!
golf harris 0
quite possible that you have a crack in your coil pack and moisture getting in causing missfires, but looking at your profile photo you have the older obd 1 model with a dizzy cap, think im right anyway... unless some of the bodykitted older ones had coilpacks too???
gary.scales 0
how can you tell it's an obd1 from the back!! hmm, not a clue.... sorry, cheers though!!
golf harris 0
the body kit is the giverway and the non colour coded door rubs, think as a rule obd1 cars has these and the newer ,n reg on i think ( obd2 cars ) deleted the body kit and had colour coded door rubs plus other parts ie,coil pack, better throttle body....but your car from what i know probably has a dizzy cap so i would check that out as that will cause missfires also if its old and all the contacts have worn away, check it out!!
gary.scales 0
wicked, cheers!!
AJmk2 2
Yea sounds like your problem mine did same exact thing. As soon as it got hot enough and dryed out id be running on 6 again but not a good thing for engine.
gary.scales 0
cheers AJ, if your in oxford again and need that ht lead pushy down thing, let me know!! Time for a new part me thinks, nurburgring not far away....
Rikki 2
the body kit is the giverway and the non colour coded door rubs' date=' think as a rule obd1 cars has these and the newer ,n reg on i think ( obd2 cars ) deleted the body kit and had colour coded door rubs plus other parts ie,coil pack, better throttle body....but your car from what i know probably has a dizzy cap so i would check that out as that will cause missfires also if its old and all the contacts have worn away, check it out!![/quote']no there are obd1 cars with full colour coding and dizzy models are early 92/93 not "the ones with arches" as everyone thinks.
