leespeza 0
hi all looking to put 17s on my golf mk3 vr6 some guys have told me it slows the car down is this true
VR6Nat 9
Not massively, but yeah... i run 17s in the summer and 15s in winter, and it does seem to get going quicker on the 15s , the ideal size for the mk3 is 16s really... looks good and performs and handles well... but i wouldnt be too put off 17s. (saying that if i could have got my wheels in 16s i would have done that and for sure my next set will be 16s too)
M44 DUB 2
Recently fitted a set of S3 17" wheels to my VR and i now find it slow as fook!! Especially pulling away and trying to pick up speed. Defo prefer the 15s. Need to get my hubs re-drilled for my polished 16s

Dragon Dave 1
I run 17's on mine, I haven't tried any other sizes, now I read this I think I want to try some 16's.What is the ideal tyre size for 8j x 16?
leespeza 0
ive got standard bbs rims at the moment 15s not sure what to do now
matty.vrt 120
ive had 15's 16's and 17's and i like the 17's best they feel less twitchy than the others and more tyre availability than the 16's
M44 DUB 2
running 205s on the front and 215s on the rear.
Lukey. 381
i agree with the 17s being less twitchy and they also improved the ride overall on my car even with 205/40 as opposed to 205/50 on the 15s.My 17s are much lighter than my 15s so the gearing deficit doesnt really affect the overall performance, bigger diam but less weight
matty.vrt 120
I need some lightwieght 17's bbs are tank but look very nice.the only lightweight alloys i like are o.z ultraleggra but they are pricy.
mike 6
its only really pulling off you notice the differnece you cant wheel spin on 17s, but the drive is the same
matty.vrt 120
lol my car does nothing but spin i no what you mean tho n/a and 17's = no spin

leespeza 0
thanks for the comments so if you get lightweight 17s it wont affect the speed

binliner 0
iv put 17's on all 3 of my mk3 golfs' date=' had 3 sets on this one, imo any other size looks too small / big[/quote']I've had several different 15, 16 & 17 on various VR6s and I much preferred it on 16x8 D90s in terms of the drive... looks is a bit trickier as I've had some nice 17s but I think the right 16s suit a mk3 better than anything
matty.vrt 120
standard internals and gearbox , having a 3.0 forged motor built at the moment and a r32 box thats been treated to a wavetrack diff and shot peened gears.
