Losing my vr love

Recommended Posts

If your bored get something new, if your not then don't. I will never get rid of one of mine, it's worth more to me in sentiment than it is in money. I will never tire of the induction roar, and the endless amount's of torque. I bet you couldn't pull a caravan with a VTS! The VR6 was so much more refined than it's competitors, have you seen the interior on these cars, anybody driven the saxo's, you need to be under 6"3 and have size 7 feet! FFS the VR is bullet proof if looked after well, if you have done the head gasket properly, it ain't goona go for another 100k!

I am heavily bias, as i work for VW as a tech and i don't really understand the cost's incurred from repairing one. What i do know is, when your warranty runs out on your new car and there is water leaking into your convenience ECU and you get a phone call from your dealer/mechanic with a quote for £1200, your gonna be losing just as much love for that car.

oh i love my car hence why i've spent so much just keeping it on the road, but it's getting old and tired now and funds simply cant permit an overhaul. i can afford to get it through the next mot i hope but after that the future is bleak.

if it was a horse it'd be shot for being lame.

if i could find another vr for sensible money in good nick during the next year i'll be seriously considering buying it, i've even been lookiing at 4mo's simply so i dont lose the roar and endless torque

I do like the vr and every time i look at it i think just imagine how good it would be with a rotrex etc. But with it getting old, rust, rot things breaking etc i want to go newer. I would really like a 4motion with around 40,000 miles on the clock and 3 door but have not seen one like that in a long time looking. (someone will prob have a link straight to one now lol) As the insurance is still good and cheaper then a r32.

I know what your feeling because i had been feeling that for a while and eventually sold my VR. Don't get me wrong, it's been a great car and don't regret it one bit. But there was point where i thought i would be keeping it for a long long time and naively believed that there was not another car out there that could replace it without spending lots of money.

But after owning a VR for 3 years i realised that the only way to appreciate other cars out there is to have a change. So i went with my instint and sold it and bought a integra.

After owning the Integra for a month, i absolutely love it and get a bigger smile on my face then what the VR ever did. Of course there are things that i prefer about the VR but theres are more things i prefer on the Teg.

I say, if theres a part of you that wants a change then go for it because there will always be better cars out there.

I've got one of the last 4mo's registered and it's a nice enough car with loads of potential. But even with an 04 car i've had 2 coil packs go, dog bone mount and top mounts need doing all in the same month. I just look upon these minor setbacks as an opportunity to slowly evolve the car into hopefully something better. You have a totally different bond to a car you work on yourself aswell.

Integras are great cars but have said to myself if i get a new car it has to be newer so looking at 03/04 plate cars. I would love a dc5 integra but as there all imports there not cheap to insure.

Yes i agree bungy when you do work yourself you no its done right and feel good about yourself. I may not be the most competant mechaninc but il give it a go or il do the work with someone that can. Really dont like leaving it to a garge to do the work.

By me mentioning i had bought an integra, i wasn't recommending you to buy it, i was just pointing out that i went for the change which i initially was in 2 minds about but im now glad i did.

DC5's are lovely cars. Look nice, good performance, good on fuel if driven sensibly. Insurance will be high as it's import.

Yes sorry that what i meant. Just meant that i had looked at them but its just the insurance and the fact they still go for around 10k when you could get a type r with same engine for less money. Altough integra is more driver focused.

I've been into VW's since i was 14 i'm 34 now and been driving for 16 years nearly. i have had many cars since been driving but i have never had a car like my vento VR.

I had the oppertunity 9 years ago to own my 1st Dub which was a Mk2 Jetta 16 valver since then i have had 2 Vento's 2 mk3 golfs 2 mk2 golf valvers and then "for a change" i decided to buy myself a phase1 saxo vts.

i modified it and made it mine in the year that i had it but there was something missing, it wasn't a dub.

the best thing i have ever done (apart from my children) is getting into dubs. the second best thing was getting rid of the saxo and getting another vento, it wasn't even a fast vento it was only a GL but i felt as if i was home again lol

The vento VR i have now has been so much of a bitch to me its even caused me to cry at one point BUT i love it. no matter how many "jap" owners overtake me or how many Corsa red top owners with there caps turned back think they can race me. i will be sat there driving my car in the knowledge that my car will out live theres and my car being a vento VR is rarer than theres.

gives me half a smile of satisfaction as i'm driving away from them as they try to figure out what i have under the hood.

I spose the point i'm trying to make is it takes a lot to get rid of a dub but if you do you will regret it and wish you never did it.

I think Muttley hit the nail on the head. There is something special about DUBS that you just dont get with other cars. Dont think i could ever get rid of mine. Its part of who i am. No matter how much heartache i get with it i still love it.

I thought id never get rid of mine.....just evolve it into a track aimed car after I moved on to pastures new. But cant justify 2 cars at all, espicailly one that would come out 4 or 5 times a year coz of work. So just gonna break it and get double what its worth as a whole.

If you need a big chunk of torque then a Mk5 Golf Edition 30 with a remap would give you that also

shame to hear that your loosing your vr love dude, alot of these little french (pug, saxos) have abit of engine work, a new cam, lightend flywheel and stripping the heck outta the car, all aids to these little pocket rockets. they are only quick at excelleartion, but shat at top end, then the vr goes "bye bye" to them. i know quite abit about these pugs and saxo's as im currently doing my girlfriends 106 at the mo, she wants hers to fly off the mark, but im putting it on bike carbs.

back to the vr6's, i have found that the corrado vr6 are ALOT quicker than the golf vr6's, i have been in 3 of each and found that there is a sagnificant lead from the corrado, whys this? same engine? little differnce between the 2.8-2.9? strange i think.

You have to remember these small cars are lighter then the VR6. With a few tweaks here and there these small cars are pretty fast.

The corrado VR6 is hardly faster than the Golf VR6 (OBD2) in a straight line. Theres nothing between them. I raced a few corrados in my golf and it was dead even. However, on the track, the corrado is way superior due to it having a better/stiffer chassis.
