spadam 7
Hah very true. Il have to pop over some time or wait till the team south meet pretty sure tht would change my mind for a good thing lol
brynvr6 1
If your losing to saxo's mate, something is wrong...It regularly surprises and amazes me what a VR6 can keep up with.My list includes keeping up with an 09 plate BMW 750D for a long whileAlso beaten Cupra's and a Rover Coupe. Given many 1.8T's a fright. BMW 325's etc etc.A healthy VR will punch its weight, you would be surprised. Dont waste your money on an R32 because you will find it really isnt much quicker at all. And they feel very heavy and very boring in comparison.
aaronmk2 3
i have to agree with bryn i have had some great fun in my vr6 and ive been very surprised what the vr6 can keep up with or even beat.the r32 is a great car but tbh not any quicker in standard form and as they are heavier and 4 wheel drive are a little bit to "refined" to give you that roar feeling the vr6 does.as for the saxo being quicker or as quick id imagine the vr6 has some issues that need looking at dont give up on it just yet mate
xyber 1
Better of with a 2.7TT S4 over an R32. 4x4 and upto 315bhp quite easily. Start fitting downpipes and RS6 turbos and your creeping towards supercar territory
H13VYY 0
I agree with the r32 views. the r32 is not alot faster at all. The MK5 DSG r32 is fairly quicker but the mk4 r32 is not alot quicker.
spadam 7
Ive had car on vagcom and no faults been serviced regulary etc. But i am pretty sure that ever since i had my exhuast fitted i have lost torque. Its a straight through sytem with free flowing back box i had it custom made but its not very good. So will order a new jettex exhaust next month hopefully that will do the trick
Nex 17
it is a sad day when you start losing the love, hopefully you find it again dude!
brynvr6 1
Vagcom won't tell you if your losing compression anywhere mate, I'd think about having a leakdown test. There are lots of things that could cause power loss that won't throw up a fault code.
rodney 17
and yes the zorstpipe will make a big difference
spadam 7
Whats a leakdown test is that just a compression test. Im pretty sure its the exhaust to be honest. Had headgasket done last year along with new valves and valve stem seals. Id be surprised if something like piston rings had gone as its only on 93,000 miles.
brynvr6 1
It's like a compression test but it gives you a percentage of combustion leakage on each cylinder. And a clue as to where it's leaking from. True I wouldn't think it's likely to be blowing by the rings at 93k. But possibly through the valve seats, depending on if you had them re-cut and lapped, and how good the worksmanship was. I often see 'proffessionally built' classic Porsche engines with less than 20,000 miles on them leaking past valve seats due to shoddy work.
spadam 7
just had vales removed etc then had head skimmed to make sure it wasnt warped then had new valves and valve stem seals fitted. Dont remeber anything about having them re cut and lapped. Done around 10,000 miles since all this work was done. hope it nothing serious otherwise car will be going. Im pretty sure its the exhaust as i read up that if you dont have enough backpressure in the exhaust you will lose a lot of torque so going to get a jetex system fitted. Dragon Dave 1
I have been very surprised and pleased with what my car can keep up with. My favorite was a 1994 MItsubitsi GTO VR4 (it should have left me standing) but I was right behind him all the way to 135. I could hear him thrashing his motor and he kept looking in his mirror at me, wondering how come I was still there. I think maybe his motor must have lost a lot of power over the years.I find a lot of OLD plastic fantastic jap cars look a bit silly next to my VR6, they look like they should be much faster but they are not.I had fun with a new Accord Type R, we were pretty evenly matched. Another good match is the Pug 306 GTi-6, we were pretty even on handling and acceleration.I have not seen any fast Saxo's but there is a Clio Sport around town that thinks it's fast. He can keep up with me, up to about 80 but as soon as we are on a long enough straight he's disappeared behind me. I find a lot of small cars keep up with the VR up to 80 or 90 but the VR just keeps on pulling.I love my car, I know there is faster cars but it's not all about how fast it goes, it's about the sound and the look just as much as the speed. spadam 7
Yea when i got to 80 i started pulling away but then had to slow down. I no the vts has very similar if not better power to weight ration so that does explain it and i was also in 3rd at 40mph so could of dropped a gear for better acceleration. mite get a compression test done sometime at local garage to make sure tho. gavinvr6 0
the zorst will cause you to lose low down torque, when i got mine done i was losing to all sorts but then it came into the power band and breathed so much better that it flew, do you remember when we first met and i had changed mine to straight through coz of the noise it made, and the amount off popping and banging that was coming out the pipes, i was telling you that you lose low down torque but then the step onto the power band was completely different as it launched once it hit 3500rpm instead of a gradual vr build up. if your gunna get rid of your zorst i might have it off you if the car passes it's mot. my zorst is a mix match of poorly fitted parts at present so need another system on the cheap *wink*wink*, if you dont then just get a small centre box added to increase back pressure slightly as this will restore the low down torque. a custom zorst builder should be able to fit one for less than 100 quid.but over all dont worry about losing to a saxo mate, he was probably screaming the nut's off it, power to weight is identical to a vr, both have 100bhp per tonne. but you got a huge smile as the low down burble builds up from the seat, travels up your spine till you feel it in your chest and finishing in a roar that any lion would be proud of my old jalopy that is not in the best of shape can keep up with my mate's mk4 r32's his old mk4 1.8t's one of them supercharged jags up to 145mph on a private track and i even suprised one of them v8 audi estate things and a bmw 320d by out dragging the beemer and stuck to the audi off the light's, but then i've struggled against all sorts of silly things simply coz they share very similar power to weight ratio's
spadam 7
Very true mate i should of dropped a gear really would of had problems then. anyway i though vr6 and vts was about 150bhp per tone
gavinvr6 0
i may of read it wrong but im sure it said 100. probably me not looking propper.a quick check come up with 935kg with 117bhp =125bhp pt for a 16v saxo vts apposed to the vr being 1.15t and 174bhp = 150bhp pt
Dragon Dave 1
The revs have to be above 4k, to go fast. Below that it's not fast.
brynvr6 1
Very true, vts's have quite good gearing for B road blasting. But on a straight road I would expect to pull away from them every time.
AJmk2 2
I decided that id either keep the car and get boost or sell it and get a rwd track car. Ive decided to go with boost and not regretting it one bit.I was dead even with a stripped 106 gti with cams and throttle bodies , My mods are exhaust intake and remap and in a mk2. spadam 7
Cheers really nice looking car. Im guna keep hold of mine till january and see wat my situation is maybe able to afford a mk4 or 5 r32
StatikedOut 2
I think you should keep your VR6. Yes saxos might be on your arse but do they have the sweet midrange of a 12v ? no. Do they have the build quality and reliability ? no. Can you supercharge them and get 350hp ? no. The list goes on.on the other hand, for 4k you can get very quick cars at the moment. Theres a tidy red rx7 on pistonheads for £4k. granted, you need a rebuild every 50k miles or so but still, 4k for 400hp... or e36 m3, £3.5k upwards...
spadam 7
I would love an rx7 one of my fave cars they sound so good with bridge ports etc. But running costs are huge huge huge rivalling skylines. I went out in b road blasters 4mo today and loved it so looking for 1 of those when i get bk frm holiday
