Miss-Vw 2
Ive been looking at some chips from Bahn Brenner for the VR, and this may sound a bit stupid but im not sure whether I should be looking at OBD1 chips or OBD2. My car is a 94 but has an engine from a '97 VR. Obviously the ECU in my car is for an OBD1 engine so just a bit confused.http://www.bahnbrenner.com/vw_audi/products/645/Techtonics_EPROM_VR6_OBD_2
gavinvr6 0
if you have an obd2 engine you should have an obd2 ecu. unless the bare engine was fitted and your original parts used like the inlet manifold and throttle body and things like that
Miss-Vw 2
Yeah the engine replacement last year was just the bare engine, as far as Im aware it's still got ECU for an OBD1.
sharky_70 0
AFAIK chip from the US wont work anyway
gavinvr6 0
in that case you got the same engine set up as me. we used a bare obd2 engine and kept it obd1 for the larger throttle body and so i could use the rado inlet manifold. it's not a lot to swap it all over, especially if you wanna upgrade to obd2 then get a proper re-map done at stealth. if not you'll need an obd1 'chip' that is for your ecu code. normally goes by last 2 letters on the ecu, ebay specials promising 5bhp are availible for 30 odd quid and i beleive they are just copies off a well known chip
