russj249 2
My mates just had a mini cooper s.. with a smaller supercharger pulley and re-map. It's between 205 and 210BHP.Obviously I can't be having this so what do you think on 1/4 mile times etcAlso doing a few track days hopefully this year and don't want him to loose me in corners. I've got coilovers fitted and lowered about 30mm.. maybe more like 50 to be honest, so will this mean easier to keep up?What are your thoughts??
Dazdub 0
Strip some weight and get some super sticky rubber. Think you may struggle though to be honest
spadam 7
Same as above lose some weight and get good tyres and brakes. Even then it wont be easy those Mini's handle so well and he will be pushing slightly more power then you to.
russj249 2
My thoughts exactly... Might have to invest in a re-map I think.. can't afford a supercharger yet!
Jamesr_VR6 0
Sticky TyresRoll bars front and rearstrip weightbest way to beat him is get in front and stay in front ;-)
The Monk 50
Dude, I decimated one wth that spec at the pod.nterior stripped out though, strait through exhaust and my tumble dryer intake It just dependds on what Bhp and torque your engine is running.
VR6Pete 1,455
my mk3 after all my engine work was done destroryed a cooper S... although mine was running 220BHP with a G60 final drive
yakuza racer 16
funny my little 1800 8valve mk1 golf runs 15.061 1/4 mile best and my vr jetta stock with all sound and everything ran a disappointing 16.3200
gavinvr6 0
it's all about the launch on the strip mate, it's all well having 300bhp if you dont know how to get that power down you'll be beaten by a saxo.lose weight, straight through exhaust as it breaths so much nicer at high rev's, big mofo filter and a remap, then practice some launch's. on private land of course and get the feel for your car. and before you know it your 1/4 mile is up and he's in your rear veiw mirror
Gazbarber1982 3
If your after cornering ability, as well as coilovers the powerflex bushes are a must!! I found BBS Solitudes with toyo proxes to be the fastest, cheapest and best handling wheel / tyre combo. Of all the standard VR BBS's, the solitudes seem to be the be the best for speed and I've only ever bought toyo's for the last 7 or 8 years. But as above, on a 'private' road, learn your launch because it does make a difference.
Rayhoop 0
Gaz - to back you up, I weighed a BBS Solitude (minus tyre and balancing weights) and it came in at 7.2kg. Which is quite good for a stock wheel (see the Wheel Weight thread on the CGTI forum).Re: Mini Cooper S.I had a play with a Cooper S with Lohen(?) livery on it... so it is either standard with a big sticker above the cills, or it was tuned to at least 230bhp (stage 1).Straight line - he had nothing on me, and my VR is standard.Around a track - it depends on the track, the car setup and the skill of the driver. At the end of the day though - enjoy your track day - keep your cool and dont take any unneccesary risks :0)
The Monk 50
It's all about the torque boys n girls.A car with 230bhp but 170F/LBs could/will get minced by a car with 200bhp and 200f/LBs
aaronmk2 3
^^^^^ the monk talks sense torque ftw
russj249 2
yes.. hence why the corsa VXR's with 190bhp are crap with only 170ft lbs. Mine was 180bhp and just under 200ft lbs. With a misfire and timing out 1 tooth on the crank Just waiting for Jim's old re-mapped ECU now
