Mini Cooper S -vs- VR6?

Recommended Posts

My mates just had a mini cooper s.. with a smaller supercharger pulley and re-map. It's between 205 and 210BHP.

Obviously I can't be having this :D so what do you think on 1/4 mile times etc

Also doing a few track days hopefully this year and don't want him to loose me in corners. I've got coilovers fitted and lowered about 30mm.. maybe more like 50 to be honest, so will this mean easier to keep up?

What are your thoughts??

it's all about the launch on the strip mate, it's all well having 300bhp if you dont know how to get that power down you'll be beaten by a saxo.

lose weight, straight through exhaust as it breaths so much nicer at high rev's, big mofo filter and a remap, then practice some launch's. on private land of course and get the feel for your car. and before you know it your 1/4 mile is up and he's in your rear veiw mirror :)

If your after cornering ability, as well as coilovers the powerflex bushes are a must!! I found BBS Solitudes with toyo proxes to be the fastest, cheapest and best handling wheel / tyre combo. Of all the standard VR BBS's, the solitudes seem to be the be the best for speed and I've only ever bought toyo's for the last 7 or 8 years. But as above, on a 'private' road, learn your launch because it does make a difference.

Gaz - to back you up, I weighed a BBS Solitude (minus tyre and balancing weights) and it came in at 7.2kg. Which is quite good for a stock wheel (see the Wheel Weight thread on the CGTI forum).

Re: Mini Cooper S.

I had a play with a Cooper S with Lohen(?) livery on it... so it is either standard with a big sticker above the cills, or it was tuned to at least 230bhp (stage 1).

Straight line - he had nothing on me, and my VR is standard.

Around a track - it depends on the track, the car setup and the skill of the driver.

At the end of the day though - enjoy your track day - keep your cool and dont take any unneccesary risks :0)
