golfrabbit33 0
i know a few garages that do turbo conversions and they all send them to a turbo specialist to get rebuilt.
legvw 0
Yeah sort of thought that, just thought i'd have a go myself, can't be that hard can it??
golfrabbit33 0
not sure of the reason, maybe there`s jigs or some special testing machine used. check the cost of a pro re build against a new turbo if you get it wrong. but maybe there is nothing special and its just labour that costs ??? legvw 0
Jigs? Yeah possibly, or some sort of balancing machine. But hoping not really, just looking into rebuilding it as i think the seals might have gone home. And thought i might as well get a 360 degree thrust bearing in there too. matty.vrt 120
how come you need to re-build your turbo paul?
legvw 0
Yeah sod it, your right jim, have a go yourself.Do you think that kits good for my tubby?I took the inlet pipe off the turbo and theres oil all around the tapper into the compressor wheel, and she blew abit on the rr day last w/end, so think its time for a freshen up. matty.vrt 120
thought you bought it new is'nt it under warrenty.
jims13 6
you will get oil in the inlet.. some is ok , lots would mean other problems .no idea about the kit, but im one foe trying new thingsif it is under warrenty , TAKE IT BACK
matty.vrt 120
i have a little bit but i thought it must be normal.
FishWick 21
It's normal to have a slight sweat of oil behind the compressor wheel, but if it's finding it's way into the scroll, defo needs looking at. Thrust bearing's probably tired and allowing a bit of shaft movement, so a 360 upgrade defo a good idea.
legvw 0
I would send it back but can't remember when i bought it! Probably just rebuild it, and use a 360 bearing. As long as theres no damage else were, should be fine.
