biggy 0 Posted May 8, 2010 Report Share Posted May 8, 2010 ok been a member for a little while now and have owned the car since april the 4th, its a 97 highline 135k miles but owned by 2 lady drivers for the last 10 years and previously to that a fleet car for vw and when i looked at it it sounded fine, all the things i had read about i checked but i am no mechanic but always wanted a vr6 as well as a uk spec supra tt but didn't have the 10k they cost so bought the vr6 for 1150. it was a bit mucky when i bought it but thought i would get it resprayed as it sounded mechanically sound so had a respray done on it about 2 weeks after buying it. they did a fabulous job and i was really pleased with how it was looking. Anyway after getting it back from the body shop £2000 poorer i thought i should have a major service done to it as it had only been serviced for the last 20k miles by a independant garage(not vw specialists) was quoted £300 for a vw service so in it went. a day later they call me with a list of parts that need replacing costing £1500 including labour. i wanted it to be as good as i could get it so i say ok go ahead with it, another day passes and alot more problems with it. so after having authentic parts from vw fitted to it (2 year warranty on all parts) i am now £2907.13 poorer. they full serviced it. full brake fluid change, new air con compressor, new rear bushes, new front discs and pads, new rear wiper arm, new power steering pump, renew beltdamper, ribbed v belt, new rear discs and pads plus new bearings, and alot of other smaller parts too. so i am now £6000 poorer but i do have as quoted by the vw mechanics a really nice vr that should last me years without too much more outlay that looks great and runs beautifully. now i need to save because i am going to have to have the timing chains done at some point. i need to show it off really it is standard apart from a jetex exhaust, but after all this money i think she deserves it. I got the car in February for £1500, since then I have spent at least another £2,000 on it. I have had a full service, front and rear discs and pads, rear bearings, Koni suspension kit, suspension top mounts, lowering spring caps, powerflex bushes all round, 4 wheel laser alignment, 4 new tyres, some welding, a new wing (from VW), new colour-coded side strips, a new coilpack (from VW), new number plates, six months road tax and some spray work.I still need to refurbish the wheels and if I had the money I would have a full respray.I already have plans to spend another £1,000 on it next year (or this year if I can afford it).That will include stainless exhaust, highflow sports cat, re-map, short shift kit, strut braces and ARB's.I know I wouldn't get my money back if I sell the car but I have no plans to sell it. I have wanted a VR6 since the 90's, I will keep this car for a long time and I hope I won't have to spend to much more money on it. Link to post Share on other sites
biggy 0 Posted May 9, 2010 Author Report Share Posted May 9, 2010 another mad bloke like me then. i haven't even included the £300 + 125 fitting for my jetex exhaust, or the new alloys and tyres at £725. and am also trying hard to find a rear leather headrest in black as one was missing when i bought the car. vw think they may be able to get me the rear ones for £175. have checked web daily for one but they are never around for sale only in interior sets.
