Oh dear, that backfired a bit!

Hello,

I went about cleaning my MAF and Cam sensor yesterday.

Did the MAF unltra carefully. used a syringe and needles to drop very small abouts of IPA onto the wire and other parts, then left to dry.

Cleaned the CAM sensor, it was pretty mucky so I am glad I did.

Had bettery disonnected for about 45 mins while I did it all, so reconnected when done then left key turned so igniontion was on, hoping to reset the ECU.

I left it for about 20 mins like this, then went for a spin. The engine ticked over slightly lower but seemed stable. Didn't really notice any throttle difference and it seemed a little sluggish, but I did my normal test run and got 16.9mpg instead of the usual 22 ish!!

Just wondered if I had reset the ecu successfully. Should I do it again with the engine up to temp?

I did oall this on my old VR and it made a massive improvement. On that one the throttle response and power were up and no change in MPG?

Any ideas or thoughts?

the reset should have worked after 45 mins. normal procedure to retrain the ECU is to leave it idling, with all electrics off, until it gets up to temp, ie fans kick in.

even without doing that though it ahould settle down over a number of starts / run cycles.
