VDubj 0
Having never replaced rear discs or wheel bearings on my golf vr6 i would like to know how easy it is and what tools are required to remove the bearings? Im not a mechanic but am mechanically minded so any advice would be greatThanks :-d
craggsy 91
Change wheel bearings at same time as putting new discs on means you dont have to take old bearing out of disc
finny 0
Yep, buy new wheel bearings (kit) for your new discs. The bolts holding the caliper carrier can be a bitch to undo.Got the nearside ones off after loads of aggro and spraying with wd40 etc. Used a 1/2 drive, reckon 3/8 would snap with the amount of force used with the breaker bar.Make sure your have a good fixing in with 8mm hex bolt, managed to round both carrier bolts on the off side. I hammered in my 1/2 drive bolt but the carrier bolt was well and truley seized. Tried banging in oversized spline bolt but no good. In the end, used a angle grinder to breaker the caliper carrier in half to get the discs out and then angle grind the bolts from discs side. Had replacement carriers anyway.Hopefully a job not to be done again for a long while.
