Mine was £20 from VW and I fitted it myself. Either they've given you the wrong price or I've stolen from them. I'd get that double checked if I was you. Also, that £60-£80 sounds like I very rough estimate from someone that didn't check the system and doesn't really know what pipe your talking about.

When I went to get mine it was in stock as it was a common fault and the parts counter knew exactly what I wanted.

no i gave him the part number and he said he got a few on the screen n they range from £60-£80 getting it from c2 anyway. but cheers for tht wat vw did u get it from?? as im london aswel

Actually I'm in Lydd on sea now so I went to Ashford. I used to go to The Old Kent road VW. I'm on first name terms with them as I owned the Restaurant next door, they even lent me tools, top blokes!!

Looks like I robbed them though, don't see how it's happened but never mind.

lol nar ur price seems about right cos from the us it $15 but then over it would be about £25-£30......think the block was still asleep was 1st thing in the morning

TPS charge approx £18 for an original VAG water pipe.

My theory is - it lasted 13 years (100k+ miles), a new one should also last another 13 years... if the car survives that long!

My worry with fittin a new plastic one would be breaking it puttin it bk together! Cuz when fittin the metal one it need some 'gentle' persuassion ;-)

£17.30 from bradford vw today, harrogate was £18.70, both plus vat. neither had it in stock though, but im orderin from the bradford one because i ended up chattin on the phone to the parts guy like he was a long lost friend!:-d

a proper VW nut, in 17 years hes had 32 cars, 27 of them have been dubs! rado's, mk 1's, 2's, jettas...etc

Yep 17.30 from TPS. And dont buy any O-rings like i was instructed over the phone... They come with it.

And yes it needs quite a lot of persuasion to fit in the block. I had to use a wire brush on a drill to get the old crap and corrosion out, and then plenty of lith grease.

Might have to replace this pipe soon as there is some residue on top of the oil cooler and had to fill up the coolant the other day.

Read up on the gruvenpart website on how to replace the crack pipe.

Any pointers on replacing the pipe? I will be replacing the whole thermostat flange etc.

What did you guys do? ie did you remove the manifold for ease of access?
