need help with ideas on removing rear caliper mounts??

Recommended Posts

Few options

Slightly bigger Allen socket, hammered in and then slowly wound out.

Or

Vice grips to get going and then by hand

Either way get loads of wd40 on then overnight

The plastic cup they sit in has a cap to protect them, but bodgers don't put them back on and the bolt heads rust out and round off when you try to get them out. So you want to replace the caps aswell if they're missing

Edit: beaten to it haha

I've managed to get my hands on some bolt removers, well I pick them up off my mate tomorrow so hopefully after hammering these on I will be able remove them.

just need to fit new bolts, does any one know the size of these by any chance so I don't have to waste another day and get these tomorrow too. need the allen bolt size, thread size and length... lol cheers...

Did my rear brake discs & bearings a few weeks ago including putting on MK4 calipers.

Rounded the bolts on the off-side and in the end, angle grind the carrier off, to remove the disc as had no decent access to get the bolts out. Had already tried bashing in oversized spline. Obviously had to source a replacement carrier

The repalcement bolt size is M10 x 21mm part Nr N907 294 01 and they cost about £1.50 each from VW. If I had time, I would use some non hex/ allen type bolts - to avoid any future problems.
