first car, really want a vr6

Recommended Posts

Hey All,

just got my p's (im from Aus) and am looking at a first car, i have always loved cars but never really learn't about them in detail... i have my heart set on a vr6, but am typically quite lost on what to look for in one.

i have been reading and skimming the forums, but thought id post this now in hope of some replys and just to say hi (=

is a car like this http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=9026075&keywords=vr6&tsrc=allcarhome&__Ntk=CarAll&__Nne=15&__Dx=mode%20matchany&__D=vr6&silo=1011&seot=1&__sid=1297A9064C3C&__N=1216%201246%201247%201252%201282&__Ns=pCar_RankSort_Int32|1||pCar_PriceSort_Decimal|1||pCar_Make_String|0||pCar_Model_String|0&__Qpb=true&__Ntx=mode%20matchallpartial&Cr=8&__Ntt=vr6&trecs=15

an alright buy? im quite concerned in regards of how many k's.

regards,

Paul

Hi mate, welcome to the club :)

in my opinion the k's its covered aren’t a major issue, as long as it have been looked after. vw's that are looked after will go forever, just look at the classic beetles ;)

I think that one looks ok, just check for rust lol

i wouldnt say a vr6 for a first car but i would be concerned on mileage as i had to fully rebuild mine at 80k. they suffere from prematur bore wear on the first 3 cylinders from heat. and mine ahd full service history and i knew where it came from when i bought it and the car my engine came out of.

i would look for a low mileage.

vr6 with less than 80k on it??? that would be near impossible no? lol

i think insurance wise in australia, anything on your provisional license is ridiculously expensive so most just get 3rd party and a cheaper first car :S

im open to other suggestions for a nice first car (=

how expensive are vr6's to run thou? petrol and oil wise?

thanks all for the replys (=

it was tradgic i saw one up today with 70'000 k's for a really reasonable price, looked really well kept aswell, but typically it had sold very quickly )=

most of them seem to have done atleast 120 +

i think id be more worried about buying one of a younger driver who's thrashed it around heaps thou :S

pah, mileage! mines 176,000 miles and still going strong, original engine etc. jim potters got 183,000+ miles and pushing over 380bhp!

ur totally right, u want a well looked after one not a thrashed one off a young driver. driven sensible u get 32mpg+ but service costs are bit more than a normal 4pot motor.

S3 XAN there must be examples under 80k.lol mines 80.....er 5, ye bout 85k on a P plate. But i have kno doubt Your's with 130 and many others on here with more miles than that have good tight cars.....after all its a volks Vaargen!!lol

Hmmmm if you could though...wouldnt most off us,whether you were familiar with them or having newly discovered them....have loved a vr as a first car, regardless of milage,.. imagine that!!!...after all most drive first cars till the lil o' wheels drop off!!!ha ha

Rover and VR6 in same sentence!!!!ha ha well you saw the light anyway and thankfully stepped into it.lol ;)

Well Pauli08, i'd say general concensis is that as long as its looked after milage is almost irrelevant. Think people are now more torn over the decision of vr for 1st car or not(get one get one get one),lol it wont be the cheapest of first cars. Somone mentioned earlier in thread you can get 35mpg,....if you take it easy...thing is thats just it,...its not easy to take it easy. But it was only the other day a debate was on here about mpg, you can eeeek out the mpg but why bother, if you have a vr6 use it!!!ha ha

If your doing short, slow journeys into town then the mpg is terrible. But on the open road, long distance journeys the mpg is pretty good I've noticed.

150k km (93k miles) is nothing as well. I'd get one Paul while you're still young and no commitments. You won't be sorry!

expect to pay close to 1500 quid for isurance, 1st car and yound wont let you get away with less then fully comp. so youd be nearer 2 grand just on insurance. add 2 grand for a decent car. 80 quid a week for fuel. 100 a year for much needed rac cover and your at 5 grand in your first year.

i paid 1300 for a 113k car that had full history and spent 5 grand over 4 years constantly fixing it.

now its getting stuffed into a mk2 :)
