vr6 into mk3 gti

My vr6 is looking really tired, so I decided to start looking for another one, but theres nothing around. Plenty of GTi of the same vintage, so as they are basically the same car and I can use mine as a donor, I am thinking of putting my engine into a gti, is there any pit falls in doing this?

I will have complete wiring loom etc, and my complete engine.

thats what I have done with mine I bought a 8 valve 20 gti and swaped engine, gearbox, bay loom , gear selector, fuel pump done it last weekend about three days work , I have som fault cods come up on the vag com that I need to sort out I think most of them due to imobiliser wil be nice to here it running

so engine bay loom plugs into the loom for the dash etc? Love the colour of that car!

all the loom plugs in to the back of the fuse box , you will have to remove the servo to get them in through the hole in the bulkhead the basic engine and loom change took two days , thanks I love the car it stands out in a crowd

Is the fuel pump different on a vr6 compared to a mk3 8v gti?

Yes VR6 pump is much bigger than the 8v one, I replaced mine a few weeks ago. I think VR6 one may be same as 16v GTi, but not 100% sure.

if its 8v youll need the gearbox and selectors and i thin k the pedal box too as 16v and vr use cable change box, hydraulic clutch and 8vs dont!

Well I recently did this swap I used everything apart from

fuel pump really which is probably why mine feels lively low down in the rev range but just shouts when I put my foot down.

hi there all!!!! i have recently put a vr6 into a gti shell but starting to wonder if i need to fit the abs system as the gti does not have it?????? any ideas anyone???

i aint sure mate but if you can get away with not having abs,do it because its a pain in the ass,lol

no you do not need abs just make sure your brakes are upto the job
