stevietots1 0
dam just seen a price for this particular induction kit..... £212 !! seems a bit much for the difference it would make ?!
acf8181 0
benefits....the car is louder! thats about it, you will gain a couple of bhp, but you won't notice any more performance other than the car being a tad smoother through the rev range.you need to get a enclosed induction kit, like the link you have...tho most use BMC carbons on this site...as if you have an 'open' filter it'll suck in hot air (theres a lot of hot air in a vr6 engine bay) and you'll loose power. Slim 0
Yep, I've got a Ramair ProRam "open" filter, it sounds orgasmic but it's making me lose power and having an Astra 2.2 litre thingy overtake me has prompted me to put the standard airbox back on when I get a spare 10 minutes.Another one to consider is the Carbonio induction kit, works on the same principle as the BMC I think. stevietots1 0
so a k&n 57 i thats closed or not? i dont think i understand the differneces &|
Slim 0
Closed means it has a heat shield around it so you can't see much of the actual filter when it's fitted, it draws the cold air in and keeps the hot air out, in principle. You'll be very lucky to find any of them for under £150 new.
acf8181 0
ok, this is an 'open' induction kit - and this is a closed one - and this is the BMC one that a lot of people use on their vr6's...the closed kit is bascially a normal open kit with a cover around it. as far as i know a K & N is an open kit. you could buy an open kit and get a local machining company to knock you up a shield for it out of alu. stevietots1 0
cheers acf very well explained, thanks
Eat this 2
hmm i wonder what figures id get with a closed kit then mine sits litterally touchin the engine
Slim 0
I think RR figures are different to driving power as on a RR, the bonnet will be open and big fans blowing loads of cool air into your engine bay so you'll get good figures, but out driving about, there will be more hot air being sucked in and poorer performance. That's what I've found so far, looking into getting a heat shield made up for my RamAir tho.
pete8tch 0
got a carbonio induction on the way , this is i think a relocated open filter , it moves the intake area to a colder area under the front wing, awesome were very impressed with these when i was there buyin my miltek
stu h 0
i like the look of the carbonio, you'll have to let us know how you get on with itare you soming to the roling road day? if so will you have it fitted by then? would like to hear it
pete8tch 0
no cant get there , if not i will ring you an rev it over the phone lol had a mate do that with a micron can on his bike, hmmmm .
acf8181 0
my logic says that an alu shield is a better idea, as it reflects heat...carbon will soak it up a bit (though carbon is complex stuff so its hard to quantify how much as its variable).
pete8tch 0
dont think a heat shield can work the air flow round it will be hot from the engine bay anyway the air intake will create airflow. does the bmc collect its air from under the wing A/C . and it works as we know so the heat doesnt soak into the carbon canister. pete8tch 0
wonder if its the length of the tract, like tuning intake lengths . according to the carbonio site carbon is a good insulator against heat, the carb and bmc are similar just the filter is in a different place
VR6Pete 1,455
ive got BMC, never looked back
badboyV6 4
There are kits that place the filter closer to the bumper (I think theyre called Viper ??) Although i dont like the scenario of accidently driving through a deep puddle and lots of water getting sucked up!!!
nickg123 0
I'm in the middle of getting a Heat Shield Designed / Made for my Green Induction.Hopefully once sorted i'll be able to sell the two together for under £100 which should make a good system then and not too expensive!
