WTF is this????

Found it in the same loom as the MAF..... first time i see it as my intake pipe was cracked and i replaced it, i also noticed i have somewhat of an oil leak....

but what is this::-|

Its some sort of solenoid valve, which connects on a tube from the carbon canister, then onto the inlet manifold.

uhm... carbon canister?

i looked around and no where for it to go, or fell out of....

please elaborate more.... is it doing harm by being off?? because i bought the car exactly the way it is... and have been driving it for some time like this

basically instead of venting fuel vapours to atmosphere the carbon canister stored the vapour and that solenoid controlled the opening and closing which the engine would suck the vapour out of the canister and into the inlet

now where does it go and what is the effect if i leave it off, will it affect performance ?

no, its mainly for strict californian regulations, it wont do anything untoward, most people remove the canister anyway for a cold air intake

as lukey b says i run mine without this and there was no side effects at all just vent the old pipe into the wing and block off the manifold side

If it's unplugged it will show an error on vagcom but if you look in the hole near the chassis leg on the drivers side the carbon canister should be there. I've moved mine to the passenger side to allow room for air filter and charger hoses.

i run it with a blocked off vac pipe too and dont even get a DTC in vagcom
