New VR6 owner, having problems!!

Recommended Posts

Hey,

Ive recently got my VR6 and seem to have a few issues. I done a search on the forum and nothing seems to cover my problem.

The red hand brake light seems to come on when driving, but generally when its a bit cold and damp/raining. It does seem to fade away and go when the engine gets warmer and after a while of driving.

But my main problem is that when i drive the car hard, it seems to bog down massively and loses loads of power towards mid/upper rev range. I also noticed that the engine sounds like its missfiring/running lumpy anda few puffs of black smoke comes out of the exhaust.

Funny thing is when it does this and the engine starts to lose power and runs ruff, the red hand brake light starts flashing while its happening, then when i change gear and drop the revs back down it goes.

Could this be an ignition fault?

Any help would be great?

Thanks

what year is the VR mate ? I would say its maybe the coilpack or as said above worth cleaning the MAF and throttle body as good cheap easy places to start :) to clean the MAF you need isopropyl spray or electrical contact cleaner ( can get them from Halfords) just remove it and spray loads all over the sensor inside but dont touch it ! with the throttle body can use carb cleaner and again just clean off any gunk from around the butterfly valve :)

Ok,

I took the plastic throttle bodie elbow of and it was all gunky and oily inside. Would this be from the Rocker cover breahter?

Gave the trottle bodie a clean and took some crap off the butterfly.

I also realised that the reason why the light keeped flashing on was because the little plastic part in the cap of the brake fluid resivoir had poped out and was making it seem like there was no fluid in it. Light has now completly gone out when driving.

While i was moving stuff around near the trottle bodie i noticed that when the stainless 6 branch manifold was installed someone must of ruited a hose wrong as the the smallish hose coming out from just behind the trottle bodie has melted and made a large hole in it. The hose looks to be a breather and go to a black lump of plastic (maybe a large valve) which then looks like it head down towards where the fuel lines come from.

Could this hole in that tube cause the problems?

Thanks

Done as mentioned above and it seems to have helped.

Although Since i cleaned out the trottle bodie and intake system the other day, its now taken a little longer to start, and sounds like it isnt firing maybe. Do i need to reset the throttle after cleaning it out?

Thanks
