G68,VSS no signal problem

00281 - Vehicle Speed Sensor (G68)

03-00 - No Signal

This code comes up on my Mk2 VR6, along with a carbon canister code (it's not connected so not a problem) and occasional "blocked by immobilizer" (chip is still in Mk3 key so have to hold near ignition barrel - sometimes miss!).

I think this is the sensor on the gearbox isn't it -not the camshaftor crankshaft sensors; it's not that the engine isn't running - it's OBD2 and it happens after a run sometimes.

So what does it do on a manual car? I haven't seen any problem with the speedometer, the power feels OK, it doesn't stall and idles OK (although occasionally when stopping it idles at 800rpm for a few seconds before dropping to normal at 680ish).

I've got a spare OBD1 gearbox - will the sensor from that one fit; is it even worth bothering?
