the car is a Golf VR6 auto 1994 , and has had gearbox problems, however i started the car a few weeks ago and noticed a noise coming from the engine bay. It is a spinning , high pitched noise that gets faster when you accelerate , it is worst in neutral when you get past 1500 rpm ? any help would be appreciated as the car has only done 62000 miles and the gearbox looks to be giving up :-(

i managed to have a quick look at the flywheel today by removing the cover between the gearbox and engine block and no signs of damage. Where abouts on the gearbox is the pump and filter? and i was told that it might be the timing chain on its way out but any tips on how to check ? cheers for the help :)

thats good it rules out the timing chain and yeah ive kept a close eye on the levels cause of the leak. its leaking between the gearbox and engine , is there a gasket between the two or is it going to be something else ? im doing some work on the gearbox itself and it would be nice to stop the leaking at the same time
