Rsjvr6 1
before I hit the red i get about 200-220 as well, averaging 22mpg for driving local even though some of it is from one end of birmingham to another. to me it sounds normal, unless i need a vag com too lol.. 28 mpg from a r32t is fantastic... paceo 22
thanks for your answers, but nowone has said to me what can cause bad fuel comsumption?
VR6Nat 9
vagcom is a diagnostics tool, basically someone plugs a lead into your car and it reads the ecu for any faults... then you know what the problem is and can fix it. It could be the maf isnt getting the fuel/air mixture correct, is it running rough or lumpy at all, is the any stutter or hold back when you're driving?when you say you're driving it like a granny are you putting it in 5th a lot? that reduces the mpg loads, and have you looked on your mfa trip computer to see what the mpg reading is?? VR6Nat 9
the maf sensor is plugged into the big air intake pipe that comes out the back of the airbox, try cleaning it up with some contact cleaner, be very careful not to damage it when doing so. if its running rich im surprised it didnt fail the mot... Rikki 2
What year is your car may help. If its a later type i would guess at MAf too as the car would seem fine with a dead MAF but run and smell rich!
Lukey. 381
basic maf problem diagnosis - unplug the maf and drive it around for a while and see if driveability gets noticeably worse, if it does then your maf is working fine

Rikki 2
Hmmm temp sensor would cause this. To test a maf on an early car unplug it while its runnin......iirc it should cut out!
