Tris 0
HI I have a track car VR6 and am thinking of super charging it. I have a super charger off a marine engine that runs at 10.1psi at 2000krpm. what is needed for the engine to run boost. head gasket compression etc.
rodney 17
nothing.... read the FAQ thread and how to threads there buddy
bungy 2
You will need a spacer plate to lower the compression and have a search for all the particulars. Interested in the charger that you have. Any photo's. Oh and it's not just about pressure it will need volume of air moved.
Tris 0
Its basically a roots type charger. the pulley thats on it will need to be changed as its from a marine diesel that has super charger with turbo. the super charger pulley is a clutch controlled by revs. when at idle it does not spin the charger, as you pick up revs to 1500rpm it loads a magnet which pulls a plate into the pully so it spins up then cuts off at 2600rpm by that time turbo is up and spooling.wil get pics tomorrow. its stripped at the mo. will have a search through, just thought I could get some direct answers here. bungy 2
Are you going to be using it with a turbo aswell?
Tris 0
no turbo.. didnt think ot it till then anyway..no just the charger if I can. its only as its there and cost nothing. the car needs the head gasket doing anyway so just seeing if i need any thing more than standard gasket. gavinvr6 0
could be interesting result's, but i wouldnt expect a lot, may give you a good kick low down for launch but could restrict thing's at higher rpm's, i beleive a standard vr6 gulp's about 17 ltrs of air a minute (or a second i forget which one) unless your charger can better that i wouldnt bother
bungy 2
I can't see how it'll work unless you alter the gearing / ratio of operation. You'll only have power from 1500 to 2600 rpm which is a very narrow band. Chargers on the cars are usually linear from zero to full rpm. Do you work with marine engines? Tris 0
yes I do. I need to speak to someone who deals with superchargers to see if they know what size pulley I will need and get rid of the magnetic clutch system so its on boost from bottom to top. its only restricted by those revs by the clutch

Tris 0
this is being a pain, gearing it so it wont run 27psi at 6k rpm. may sell it and put money towards something else? turbo kit, blower for the VR or different engine
Antihero1981 8
yeah a quick look installation might be a pain
