I only have one key for my Audi, but I do have another matching key for another audi, so can I get this changed to match my key, say like a new chip and the metal part cut the same or do I have to pay £120 to the steelers for a replacement key? :-p

Well I wait to be proven wrong but as far as I know you need to have the chip in the key coded to the immobiliser and that can only be done by specialists - the stealers is one but I know a couple of local peeps near me who can do it so presume there must be some near you - have a quick look in the good old yellow pages

as far as i know the only place you can get them from is the dealerships as there cut and the basic code is done in germany. You cant obtain the key number via audi anyways so it would be a direct copy of your current one which are never perfect as yours is a laser cut key the machines to cut them wont be a laser. Also from experience of aftermarket keys for mk4 golfs polos etc they are crap losing coding etc no where near the life span !!

the locksmith we use at work may be able to do it but i think its a bit far for him to travel but i could give you his number and you could ask him direct if you wish

i know he can make the key part dont know about recoding old keys

I can get them done but i'm sailing for America tomorrow. £120 is reasonable for the type of key but it can be done cheaper.

you need a new key blank, with blank transponder..

as bungy says it can be done cheaper, but 120 quid is the going rate.. i think the guy i use in colchester charges 80 ish.

get a blank cut and superglue the transponder to the inside of the ignition cowling, tenner.
