ASHLEYG 4
Is this a good buy? I've been after a rebuilt VR6 engine for a while now, and have just been offered a fully rebuilt, zero miles engine. It's a low compression 2.8, with forged wossner pistons, standard rods, new bearings, new chains and tensioners etc, head hasket, rebuilt head with guides and valve stem oil seals, ARP head studs, etc etc.It was built to run boost from a charger. How would this run normally aspirated? would it be underpowered being low compression? Was thinking of biting the bullet and buying it as I've been offered a Z engineering stage 2 charger kit at a good price. The engine has been offered to Me for £1000, and I know the people who built it so know it will be a gooden!Any advice would be great, it's for my MK2, which was already a VRCheers, Ash

b19drg 0
sounds great , im sure to rebuild using stock parts would cost the same , seems good
LadVR 0
Im sure I spent nearly 1500 quid rebuilding mine with wossners and all new seals, chains, tensioners, gaskets etc, etc, plus all the hours going into it.If you know the person who built it and you say it should be good, go for it! FishWick 21
Yeah the Wossners were £750 on their own when I bought mine. ARP bolts another couple hundred, plus the head rebuild... it's a steal! What compression ratio is it?You won't notice a huge drop in acceleration with low comp normally aspirated to be honest. ASHLEYG 4
Cheers for the advice! Think I'm prob going to go for it. Just wasn't sure how it would perform being low compression. I'm not sure what ratio it is, but He has the invoice for the pistons so I guess I could find out somehow! How much power can the standard rods take then? Also id going supercharged, would My 268 cams be any good?Cheers again, Ash*EDIT* I've been told it's 8.5-1 comp ratio
ASHLEYG 4
Anyone?
michael5556 247
Tbh mate I wouldn't bother with the cams if your charging!
FishWick 21
268s have worked with Superchargers before but it depends on the overlap etc. Unlike a turbo, you can lose boost if the cams are too wild.
