fin 0
With a heavy heart i say, I crashed my beloved VR6 on sunday. I wasnt speeding or under any influence but hit a very slippy corner a little fast and the car spun it a bank of trees. The car didnt seem to bad but i was just happy that no one was hurt. Now ive been told the cars a right off. 2g to fix!!! So i was wondering what the best thing to do was,1; Break it for parts, engine, gearbox and other pricey bits should be ok i think2: Sell it in its damaged state3: CLaim and ruin any chance of owning anything as nice as a vr for the foreseeable future.Any suggestions, thanks guys
Devilfish 0
oh im sorry to hear that mate seems to be atleast one a month so far do what binliner did and buy a synchro charger vr6 ! any shiny bits on it? or was it standard?
danb 0
id either break it or buy a clean mk2 and swap all the bits over !
MrBen 0
Who's quoting 2k to fix it? If that's a proper quote for an insurance company, it'd cost a lot less if you did as much yourself as possible and used 2nd hand parts where possible?
badboyV6 4
Thats bad news m8, i spose at leat everyone was ok- doesn make you feel any better though......Break and sell it all on ebay- Most of it will go to people on here Ive seen engines alone go for 600 quid....If youve got leather thats worth 500 quid in good nick. fin 0
Today was the first chance ive had to see it. The front left wheels bent back a bit, so maybe the subframes bent, the bonet, bumber and lights are gone and the icing on the cake..the recovery company creased the doors and the roof picking it up. Bastards. Im fuming. Ive only had one guy look at it and he said it wasnt worth it, small things like the bonnet and panels id change but i wouldnt be confident about the rest. fin 0
It wasnt completely standard. Magnex exhaust, koni shocks and eibach springs, cloth interior which i was planning to change, better discs and pads. It had full vw serive history adn only 67k on the clock. I could &|
badboyV6 4
Low miler too - gutted for ya m8.... Catch 22 cos if you claim your out of pocket cos of your insurance...Have you found out how much it would go up by? I think you could claim but buy the car back at a (very) cheap price (a friend of mine did it) I think he sold all the bits and put the money towards the insurance rise and other bits for his new motor... Pitch it right and you could make quite a bit- but it depends how much you payed for it....If you can prove its low mileage your engine and box could be worth good money, then theres other ancilleries, tyres, interior dashboard, airbags, exhaust, shocks, etc Break it and sell it in bits..... shail 0
in all honesty i would sell the engine and gerabox, and see what you could get for the other bits. Check how much your insurance will go up by, if its loads then you may have to bite the bullet and buy a cheap run around and build your NCB up again. Or, for 2k you could buy a VR with a knackered engine and do a swap.
Geastb 0
Depend if your fully comp or tpft but If you can get the car for peanuts from the ins company i'd buy it back and strip it. I would get an idependant engineer to access the damage and as long as it aint structural and not too bad repair yourself? If you do decide to strip it and the engine is OBD1 - i'll have it off you?! acf8181 0
thats unfortunate.sucks that the recovery co damaged the roof and doors or i reckon you could have got it fixed failry cheaply from your description....now its scrap for sure.buy it back and break it for parts. badboyV6 4
How the feck did they damage the roof? Messers!
MrBen 0
Did the quote include the damage done by the recovery company? How much was that element of it? Surely there's potential to claim against them.
dub_weiser 0
Gutted mates sorry to hear that.
fin 0
Cheers everyone for the advice. The recovery co picked it up. Even though they denied it a mate drove past as they were doing it. Bent both doors and creased the roof!! I bought it for 2500 even with FVWSH and the other bits so got an absolute bargain, even had it AA checked, mint mechanicals. Think im going to have to break it, save up for a few months then think about upgrading to a highline. The money id fork out in premiums would be insane although i do have fully comp. Im definitely pursuing the recovery idiots for the damages they made. On the other hand i could claim, get 3k apparently then buy it back and use the cash to fix it. Choices choices.Oh and its odb1 if anyone wants to start bidding ?! [ Edited Thu Jan 20 2005, 10:21PM ]

fin 0
Ive decided to claim so ill let you all know when/if i get the chance to buy it back. The crash did happen about 2 miles from turners hill actually. Fun roads in the dry but with all the farm traffic a nightmare when its damp. I bought it with a cloth interior and was looking for leather on ebay but this has given me the chance to maybe upgrade to a highline so blessing in disguise hopefully.
