veedubyah 0
The no.6 spark plug on my '97 highline, seen it arc from around the bottom of the ht lead against the wall of the cylinder head. Whipped the lead off to find a bit of oil inside it, taken the plug out and the electrode was all black and the plug was covered in oil. the ceramic part of the plug had oil on it as well. Taken out plugs in cylinders, 4 & 2, both are ok have that burnt, brown appearance. What has caused this leak on just the number 6 cylinder? What is causing this oil to leak on the number 6 cylinder only? Valve stem oil seals gone? Or worst case scenario, piston rings worn? Having just forked out £1300 on new clutch, flywheel & chains, gutted.com is the word. The car has done 108,000 miles and has a full vw service history. I've owned the car for 4 & half years without a problem at all, hasn't missed a beat. In mean time, i'm going to replace the plugs & leads, but what are the torque settings for the spark plugs? Does anybody know please?

35i-VR6 17
Ive just done the same with mine m8, thinking it was my piston rings, so I whipped the head off and took the pistons out and on looking at me rings they look brand new. So my block is all stripped down and its goin into a engine shop to give it the once over. But im thinking it could possibly be worn valve guides and stem oil seals. MAVRICK 0
I have got mine in bits a the min and it turns out #1&6 piston is getting oil from the valve guides and seal. Not likely to be your rings at that millage. Seals and guides. I know it a pain seen as you just done all that work.
veedubyah 0
it has always used a bit of oil while i've owned the car, i have to top it up quite regularly. I use mobil super s 10/40 part synthetic, or service it gets quantum syntax from the dealer. It's never failed an MOT on emissions, smokes a bit on start up when its cold though. What is wrong for it to be losing a little oil now and again? Not massive amounts, i like to keep the oil level at the top on the dipstick, and every now and then it drops down to bout 3/4 on the min/max marks?
