The Monk 50
Righty, just curious. I can't find anything about them online.I wandered if anyone could answer this.Does Syncro mean permanent 4wd?4motion mean permanent 4wd?I ask because my 60 tonne passat doesn't give me a kick into the seat when I floor it. Nor can I tell if all 4 wheels are driving the car.Any ideas?
craggsy 91
4 motion uses haldex that drives front wheels unless it detects loss of traction then it moves power4 to the back wheels.Syncro is torsen type. Read thishttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torsen
The Monk 50
Forgive me but that has just confused the hell out of me.That means I have perm 4wd but less power to rear wheels?
legvw 0
No, neither are permenant 4wd.The syncro uses mechanical means to engage the rear wheels when needed, haldex uses electronic means to engage the rear wheels. Both systems rely on 'slip' detected (from the front) to engage the rear wheels.E.g when cruising on the motorway it will be fwd. From a standing start at the lights, you boot it, front wheels start to spin, engages the rear diff, an boom, 4wd! Until the speeds of the front an rear even out.
pops 1
don`t forget, if your passat runs inline engine it will have the torsen type 4wd basically same as the A4 Quattro, s4 rs6 and so on , which is perm 4wd but split 70-30 i think when slip is detected more goes to the rear, a3 and tt run haldex system which is electronic, as does the r32 and 2.8 v6 bora and golf, mk1 skoda octy and seat freetrack, rear diff only kicks in when the abs detects slip
Lukey. 381
transverse is haldexlongitudinal is torsensyncro was viscous coupling
Sidhu88 1
am i right in saying that u can buy haldex controllers that can either kick the rear wheels in quicker or permanently adjust the front/rear bias?
