vr6 obd2 not working

Recommended Posts

ok guys i posted a while back about my vr6 not giving me any power over 3k rpm and i still have the same problem :-/ i dont know where to look now :-(

iv changed the plugs the fuel fillter and made a water shield for the coil pack and its still playing up.

i will put my foot to the floor and it will pull through every gear till about 3k rpm then the power sort of halfs and carrys on reving on till the red line, it has lost its top speed, now being around 100mph as it sort of gets there pulls a bit then loses power then pulls a bit more then loses power again.

iv un pluged the maf that just made it run a bit diffrent but still the same problems, i unpluged the lamba sensor to, same story there too.

it reall seems like the engines lacking fuel but theres no leaks in the fuel lines, theres a fresh fillter but it made no diffrence and the fuel pump is still queit so im not susspecing that to much.

where should i go next? i mean my 1.6 that i took out of the car to put the vr in had more preformence and fun to it at the moment.

just to say too the car at no points cuts out, it just loses power :-(

I had similar problems, swapping from 2ltr gti to vr6 an the fuel pump on the vr is slightly bigger. Yes it may be the same pressure but it is more than likely carry more fuel through at the same pressure as the 1.6 pump. Also have you checked for vacuum leaks and have you checked the pressure regulator? Also have you plugged it into vagcom ? After I did my swap I couldn't get my ecu to talk to the computer and the k line is all plugged in, just wondered if you had any luck with that. ?

It did help alot and it seams to be slightly better on fuel. However I changed the maf and plugs and leads at the same time but it defiantly helped. Yh i have the same problem it won't talk I even got someone else to come round with actual vagcom and still nothing. Another thing I thought of is what exhaust you using the whole vr one? I'm using my old gti one and noticed it is running slightly hot.

ok im confussed now, the car wont do more than 90mph now, it will pull all the way till 70mph in 5th then lose power and will stop pulling at 90mph, so thats what way worse than the 1.6 i had in there, i changed the fuel fillter it made no diffrence the pump is working fine with good flow i havnt checked the pressure yet but im pretty sure its nothing to do with the pump but rather something to do with a sensor, dose anyone know of such a sensor that might be causeing the problem?

its annoying how i have to run my 2.8l engine about with all the MPG of a 2.8 but power of a golf buggy i want to get this fixed :-/

i had a dead battery, i changed that thinking it could be it could of been some weird power fault but i was wrong.

dose it sound like ht leads? or a coilpack, but i would of thought that would of been a fault i would be seeing all the time rather than 80% of the time

yes i have the vr6 cat on, but the problem didnt sort of just get worse and worse it sort of just happened about 3months ago :-/, im putting 70quid of fuel in it a week i would just like it to work, i think my mate has a decat i could use for a while but i hope its not as my mots at the end of the month, is there anything else it could be?

yes it gets warm without a problem and runs just normal below 3000rpm and now and again it will work fine 800rpm-6500rpm its weird it sits at 800rpm at traffic most of the time.

now and again it will sit at 1000rpm, i was reading up on the vr6 engines and apparently if the maf fails you wont see to much diffrence but if the maf and TB both stop working your in troble, so i may have 2 diffrent falts randomly happening, also it would make sense why it likes to run now and again if the TB is calibrating every so offten i start it.

how much are you looking for it? and i cant get vagcom connected it just wont talk with the car, it dose it with the maf disconected as well but when you disconnect the maf while the engine is running theres no bif diffrence so its probley playing up

TB can be cleaned mate.

No probs with that, Will clean up, but the problem may not go, as OBD2 has had the later problem with the throttle body.

Clean it up, stick it back onn, and see if theres any difference, as for the revs, yet again it can be the Maf, what year is your VR, Im coming to Bedford tonight, Can bring a spare one up if you want to trial and error it.

Sensors you could be looking at Temp as that controls quite a bit mate.

Disconnect MAF then start car.

To reset run it for 8miles, No vagcom needed.

well i disconnected the maf for 2 days to have a good test at it, if you dont mind coming and haveing a look we could swap the maf over and see if we get any results, i have a feeling its more to do with the maf been really stuffed and the TB been abit random, where are you heading in bedford if your near the town and have 20mins to spare i would really appreciate that.
